    • if you do a manual install of Joomla! and create a MySQL database with godaddy you can back it up. if you do their quickie-install value added Joomla! install, you will not be able to back up your database.

    • The hosted DB can export tables, but only to another DB hosted on the same server (another GoDaddy DB). So, unless I am missing something I think they have safeguarded itself from people "jumping ship" and people taking their sites and DB's elsewhere.

    • I hear a lot of people complaining about hosting but........ what do you expect for $5 a month? I pay that much to park my car for two hours on a patch of dirt, and I don't get any tech support.

Bottom line, you get what you pay for. You want performance and support, buy a server cluster and a managed solution package.

You want no support, low performance, no flexibility? Host your site for $5.99 a month.

    • I expect the level of service to be consistent, regardless of what I pay. taco bell tacos are cheap, they're not great, but I know I get the same thing every time I order one. when I started using godaddy I had no problems with support or performance. I used them for several years. then it was like someone flicked a switch and everything went to crap.

you say you get what you pay for? I guess you missed the part where I bought a dedicated plan from them and still had pretty much the same problems. the $250+ plan got me LESS support with the same poor peformance.

their tech support has gone from support to sales. they are markedly less concerned with customer care than they are with pitching you on buying 12 month hosting plans. I see it as being like a restaurant that screws up your order... while you're waiting for them to correct the error the waiter comes out and tries to get you to buy more food.

My current host is reasonably priced and support has done their job competently. I have yet for them to try to upsell me.

    • I run the virtual dedicated option with no flaws, and their support was decent. I pay like $40 a month and they gave me SSL, so that was cool... I really have no complaints other than my server being slow sometimes, but that could be because I pump out over 150gb bandwidth per month...
