    • It's 10am on 1-May.
      Also my birthday.
Was looking forward to a new template as a present from RT.
      ...yes...I am that pathetic...

Will there be a new template this month?

    • Monday I expect. I hope it's not based on the last three that have been released, it would be nice to have something completely different.

    • Specifically, how would you like it to be different?
Are you referring to the style or the framework?

I've become a big fan of the Gantry2/960.gs framework.
I do pseudo mass production of sports team websites.
I like having several skins for the same module positions so I can deploy sites and tweak the design without rearranging all the modules into different positions.

    • Don't misunderstand me, I'm not criticizing any of the templates that have been released in recent months I'm sure that plenty of people have used them for their projects. However, most of the people I put together websites for are looking for a nice basic design without too much fussiness. I would like to see a back to basics every now and then rather than high-tech templates every single month. I'm sure that the developers could design two or three more basic designs in the time it takes to design one of these high tech templates. I really like all the designs from template monster, however TM doesn't offer any club membership, you have to purchase each template.

    • I think I see where you are coming from. I have posted similar things myself. In my case, I have to modify the heck out of any RT templates I use because I deal with businesses and high-level sports teams. The templates need to be professional and clean. Funky icons and backgrounds and themes for gaming sites are useless to me.

I realize they need to produce things that will sell, but I'm curious how many people can use some of the templates without significant customization. I also know it's very difficult for designers to hit a target they do not have.

Please include a few links to templates that illustrate what you are referring to as well as a blurb about what you like about it. Maybe we can all benefit....and you may get what you want if you provide specifics. The RT people seem to be very responsive and helpful.

    • I think I must state that I am by no means a professional website designer and normally use the template straight out of the box without any customizing. After all, if you've got the skills to heavily customize and totally change a RT template then why bother having a developer's license when you might as well design a template from scratch? Just my opinion :-)

Like I said, I don't do it as a living but do put together websites for people if they ask me to, for a small fee I might add, hence me having a developer license.

All of the people who I have put a website together for in recent years have only wanted something very simple, inexpensive and easy to navigate. So I've actually found that nearly all of the websites have been much easier to develop using the old templates. My two favorite are the catalyst and versatility III. All but one of my personal website have been developed using these two websites and whereas they are not high-tech professional design, I think there are very functional and suits my needs down to the ground. If somebody approached me wanting a website development for a professional company than the one of the latest templates would probably fit the bill very well.

By the way, I absolutely love the latest May release, this is what I was looking for.

Some of the examples I was talking about. I really like headings on my websites, and the old templates make it easy for me to be able to create a heading that fits in well. All of the following website utilize just the two templates, catalyst and versatility III. I suppose you could call me a little bit monotonous but I found that these templates seem to work and everyone seemed happy with the outcome anyway. And for less than 300 quid, you can't ask for more can you? When somebody asks you to do a website for them and gives you a paragraph of text plus a contact number and e-mail, there's not a lot you can do :cheesy:
