    • IS anyone else quite excited by the latest release due shortly?

Will it drop April 1st? Or will it be held back a little longer.

Either way, Im quite looking forward to it and also using the new ProSilver theme, if thats available with the RC1.

      Fingers crossed.

      Hi Thomas,

while the new theme has quite a fresh look, I must say I'm not excited at all about Olympus, for one reason mainly: After several years, the phpBB folks still haven't managed to create a plugin system. All extra functions need to be implemented via core hacks.

I've been running a largish phpBB based board for several years and I'm now at a point where version upgrades have become a nightmare - even though I don't have many mods installed. So, since phpBB still doesn't offer a plugin system in Olympus, I'll refrain from upgrading. Instead, I'll probably switch to myBB some time. (Not to SMF, although you're probably going to hear that recommendation a lot around here.) In any case, it's bye bye phpBB for me.

      Kind regards,
      Zorro

      Blimey

      Zorro,

The hacks I use in the 2.0.2 version of it are now fully implimented into the 3.0 software. The only one that isnt is the cash mod, but I dont see that as a problem.

I know what you mean though, hacking the files everytime there is a major upgrade is quite a chore.

You'd think they would learn from Invision perhaps.

Although, they charge, whereas phpbb do not.

    • Im actually quite excited about it. I still prefer the way that phpbb operates to SMF - seems less complicated or cluttered even though with Joomla! I will go for SMF if i possible can.

If I were to upgrade, it would only be if they upgraded the CB plugin to connect Joomla! & phpbb.
