    • hi again,

thank you for the link and the admin details.

ok, i had a look at the layout sliders and they always show me the grid combination when hovering on the slider. i am able to move the slider and the grid info and see that your mainbody shows 5/7 when clicking on 2 positions. you mentioned before that this was the setting you wanted to use but could not get saved. strange, because this is what it shows now. it seems to have saved fine, so i am not sure i understand your problem.

i went to your module manager and all i see are 2 modules published to the "left" position which does not exist in the gantry templates. you only have 5 articles which are not connected to a menu item, the only menu item you have is "home".

to put it in a nutshell, your site has no content at all. your first screenshot shows "you have 0 positions published" for all areas of your site apart from the mainbody.

i suggest that you start adding some modules and menu items, otherwise it makes no real sense to try and use the layout sliders.

    • So what you are saying is that the layout sliders will not stay where I put them if I don't have content in therm?

I want the mainbody slider to show 5|7 regardless of whether there is content in the positions.

And, I'm not following you again. You say that the 5|7 mainbody setting saved, but again, it is showing one positionint he mainbody.

Perhaps I don't understand how gantry works. My premise is that I choose what positions I want and the proportions, THEN I can add in content and show it up in the places I want to see it.

From what I'm hearing from you is that I have to place content in order for my template positions to work, which is counter intuitive.

I am struggling to understand, especially when you say you see items saved that are not saved according to the screenshot I am attaching. I get the feeling you are used to dealing with newbies to Joomla and RocketTheme. I am neither - I've been with Joomla since 1.0 and RocketTheme off and on since Sept 06.

I know that there are no module positions published. That said, I think I should be able to create the structure (build the house and set the rooms in place) before I do the interior design (add the content). If I'm wrong, I'll accept that, if stated clearly..

      Thank you.

    • hi again heather,

please try this: open your template parameters, go to the mainbody. click on the "2" above the slider. then hover on the orange bar and you will see 5/7. so your change for the mainbody got saved correctly. this is ALL that counts.

it does NOT matter what will be shown when you open up the template parameters. it does NOT matter if it shows on 1,2,3,4,5,6 positions. what DOES matter is that the grid combo such as 5/7 is saved.

please, watch the video that i have linked to in my first post to fully understand how these sliders are used.

      thanks, kat :)

let me explain this a bit more, let's take the header-position as an example:

if you have a module published to header-a and another module to header-b and both are assigned to the frontpage, then the slider for the header positions will show on "2" and the text on the right will say "you have 2 positions published". if you click on 3 positions and move the slider to for example 3/3/6 and save and then reopen the template parameters, then the header slider will be back to "2" because "you have 2 positions published" > one module in header-a and one in header-b but not yet in a 3rd position such as header-c. but if you click on 3 and you still find the slider on 3/3/6 then everything is working as it is supposed to.

if you want a 3rd module in the header position, simply go to your module manager and publish a module in header-c and assign it to the frontpage. if after that you open up your template parameters again the header slider will show on "3" and say "you have 3 modules published".

when you then refresh your frontpage you will find 3 modules side by side in the header position, module header-a will be 3 columns wide, module header-b will be 3 columns wide and module header-c will be 6 columns wide because you have specified 3/3/6 for the header position.

    • Kat, I hate videos - I don't even have a TV because of it - but your verbal explanation just cleared it up for me...

You see, I'm coming from creating the framework (by hand) THEN putting content in... This seems backwards to be, but you cleared it up.

Thank you very very much for your patience. I get it now.

    • hi again,

i really recommend that you watch all the videos for the gantry documentation.
even though you hate videos, the time you will spend watching those videos is WELL invested and will save you a LOT of time for your project.

    • For a "LEFT" module position in the Gantry Template do this:

      1. Go to your module manager and add your left menu or module to the "Side A" position.
      2. Then go to your template manager and change your "Main body" position to "2" and move your slider to the right until the "SA" (side A) appears to the left of the main body.
      3. Apply, and then check your template.

This is meant for those trying to position a module or menu to the left of the Main body area.
