    • Rackspace owns the market for Cloud Hosting and will continually be the leader for this new technology. Their pricing, performance and customer service are untouchable. They had some growing pains when they first bought out the cloud hosting company to expand but have everything running on all cylinders.

Dedicated and Shared servers are the thing of the past - the future is Cloud Hosting.

I agree, but Rackspace is a premium host. Not everyone can spend $200/mo on a host. VPS.Net lets you start cloud hosting at £15/mo and easily add more and more power as needed. Peer1 is also a very good premium host.

    • I use Hostgator. It runs fine, especially for the money. I tried Dreamhost, which was constantly having issues, and then Rochen, which ran great, but they don't provide a lot of disk space.

      My site is www.fpccwakefield.com

That is true about Rackspace but there are companies out there that offer much cheaper packages using the Rackspace Cloud - not everyone wants/needs to pay $149/month for 50GBs of space and 500GB's of bandwidth.

    • I have a shared account on hostgator and want to enable the RokGZIPPER. Here is what the technical side said when I asked if they had GZIP enabled.

gzip is enabled on all of our shared and reseller plans, yes; however, mod_gzip is not.

In any case, I enabled the plugins but don't really notice any difference. Do I need an account that has mod_gzip enabled?

You should start a new thread here as this question is not related to the OP's question:

    • As a warning: please do not use YAHOO! SmallBusiness hosting! This is my first Joomla site (I used Yahoo! for another client and went great) but it is not suitable for Joomla as the PHP support is poor, no .htaccess, etc.. - and they are quite resistant to upgrade anything. As a plus, their support is good and they did refund my money quickly. :)

I think I may try host gator as others recommend but am looking at cloud based solutions as well. Quick thanks to everyone who is posting here though - will post what I come up with later.

      Cheers,

      -J
