Danger With Multiple Joomlas on One Hosting Account

Posted 13 years 1 month ago
    • I would like to know what dangers exist when installing multiple Joomlas on one hosting account. What will cause them all to break at the same time?

    • Hi
and welcome to the forums :)
Obviously something at your hosters end. Maybe a database server screwup, some of their code libraries getting corrupted, hard to say without more details.
Have you contacted your hoster about this issue?
Can you provide some more details?

    • When attempting to install a new Rockettheme template in a third domain on the same hosting account, my other two stable Joomlas broke. I have no graphics. Any ideas how to restore the sites?

      Broken joomlas are
      Joomla 1.5
      Crystalline template

I installed j1.7 and Crystalline bundle, but it did not work on the third domain. It broke the other two Joomlas. No graphics after initial loading of index page. When you leave and come back to the index page, there are no graphics there either. Both sites were stable and now both sites suffer the same damage. The attempt to install manually caused the problem.

This is a screen shot of homepage when returning to it. There are no graphics anywhere on site after first entry.

      Help!!

    • I have spoken with the hosting tech support three times and they say they can find nothing amiss. I have taken a look at a snapshot prior to the problem, but cannot find any files that are different from the current files. Of course I have not gone through every file. It appears to be a js or a php problem. Where do I begin looking for a damaged file? Or can something else go wrong where a file has not been modified? I am depending upon their software to compare files.

Appreciate your help, Dan! I have searched for other instances where this has happened and not found help. There was an instance I recall from last year where an install on a primary domain broke other Joomlas on secondary domains. I can't find the post again. :(

    • Do I have to just throw them away, or is there something I can do to repair the sites?

    • Thanks for your offer of help, Dan. I was ready to reinstall all three sites when I found the problem. The j1.7 apparently placed a php5.ini file in my root directory. My j1.5 sites had placed a php.ini in the root directory. When I removed the php5.ini it cleared the problem and my two 1.5 sites returned to stable. The php5.ini conflicted with the php.ini.

Does the j1.7 always install a php5.ini in the root directory? And if so, why have not others experienced the same disaster when running multiple Joomlas on the same server when they add a 1.7?

Umm..because J15 nor J17 place a php5.ini file anywhere. Did you use an automated installer from your hoster? I'm thinking this is where the file came from.

    • yes, on the 1.7, but no on the 1.5s. I used rocket launcher on the 1.5s. But, was told because I was having problems with broken sections, that I ought to not use the rocket launcher, but just use it as a source of file info. So, I installed 1.7 through my hosts cp.
