    Template Installation Problem

Posted 16 years 4 months ago
    • Hi all,

I did some searching but couldn't find an answer to my problem so I apologize in advance if this has been asked / answered before. I'm a web designer thats new to joomla and trying to get this template installed for a starting point to customizing a site. I installed joomla 1.5 on my domain via hostmonster scripts and then uploaded the .tgz file through the template manager in joomla but haven't been able to get the template to fully load images and what not. The only thing that I've been able to find that looks off is under the catalyst parameters: The Parameter-File /templates/rt_catalyst_j15/params.ini is Unwritable!

I tried creating a new params.ini and replacing the old one with the blank ini file, but that only makes it "writeable" until i do something in the template manager, then it goes back to unwritable. Any advice / help? The site is www.bbelanger.com . Thanks in advance!

    • That is a bug with Joomla, for the most part, the file will actually be writeable.

    • Actually, I am experiencing this same issue whereby I cannot make any modifications to the theme due to not being write-able. I've even gone in to the website back-end via cPanel as root super-user and still I could not change the permissions on this file to make it readable... Please advise.

Assign another template as default, then uninstall it.

With your ftp client, upload the unzipped folder directly in your templates directory, the files should take the correct ownership.

    • Thank you. So are you saying that I should not install things from within Joomla?? I'm now experiencing permissions issues with folders on the server. I cannot upload a new promo image for the Catalyst template...

    • No, you should be able to install things within Joomla. Is FTP enabled in Global Configuration ?

    • No it is not and when I try to activate it, it says:

An Error has occurred! Unable to open configuration.php file to write!

And my attempts to modify the permissions on the config file prove fruitless as well...

    • Did you try to change the permissions with your ftp client ?

    • Yes, I have tried to change the settings via Transmit and I am told that I do not have the proper level of permissions.

Even trying to replace the logo image in a template gives me this:

      Server said:
      Rename/move failure: Permission denied

Error -160: could not start data transfer
