It's nothing to do with my Mac or my localhost set-up. As I said, the problems are present both locally and on a web server.

The problems lie in the website itself - or rather something missing or conflicting. Unfortunately, this site is one of half a dozen sites all built using the same Gantry based custom theme. I built one site, then cloned the site and changed the content in order to create the others so whatever the problem is, it's replicated across all of them.

I see that David Anthony appears to be having a similar problem: http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=485&t=215147&rb_v=viewtopic#p1058219 so perhaps the cause is not unique to my sites.

    • The thing is that we are unable to replicate that right now.
None of us had this issue.

When this happens for two members it still means its pretty unique keeping in mind that there are thousands of members that upgraded to 3.2.1

Maybe it's something in your custom theme?
Did you try a clean Afterburner for example?

I'm also working on Mac and I didn't have that issue. Both and 10.8 and 10.9
There are a few issues with Mamp an 10.9
      www.gladdy.co.uk

      But I don't think that's the issue here ...

It's nothing to do with my Mac. I've demonstrated that by updating on a web server which resulted in the same problems. It's not a MAMP issue either as I tried using AMPP. I've also tried different versions of PHP but I've since eliminated PHP from the equation completely.

I'll try AfterBurner now (good suggestion) and let you know the result.

    • Why is allow_url_fopen disabled?

The default setting is "1" (ON) as you can read here: www.php.net/manual/en/filesystem.configuration.php

That's the default set by my host. I'll try enabling it but I don't see how that would cause the problem.

    • I have re-enabled allow_url_fopen but that had no effect on the problems I am facing.

    • Well, after 2 weeks without a solution, I thought I would post how I finally solved the problem.

Eventually, I gave up trying to fix the issues I was having. I was pretty confident the problems were caused by a JS conflict that was effecting both front-end and back-end.

I installed a clean copy of J3.2.1. I then installed the full Gantry 4.1.20 package. Everything worked as expected in this clean site.

I then made a list of all non-core extensions installed in my original site and installed the same into the clean site. I checked Gantry again and things were still ok.

After that I dumped the database from the old site and imported it into the new site. Checked Gantry again and still no problems.

Finally, I deleted the Gantry template in the new site and replaced it with my custom theme from the old site. Job done and everything working as it should.

It was a bit of a hassle and about an hours work but still, much less time than I has spent so far trying to solve the issues with the broken site.

    • Thanks for the instructions Bold New Media. I will have to do the same as they provided no answer.

I feel your logic proved it was not an issue with your set up. Mine is totally different (windows, wamp, etc...). I wish I had checked back on this thread sooner so I could back you up.

Still hope they look into it so other people still get help. I'll be doing the same as you this weekend so it's too late for me.

      Best,

      David
