Template-width-changer for 12-column-layout of gantry

    • Is there any chance we could see a template-width changer guide for 16-column templates and Joomla 1.7/2.5?
      It must be the only thing missing...

      Hi there,

      For Joomla 1.5 templates with 16 columns - www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=39..._v=viewtopic#p571846

      For Joomla 1.7 (not tested on 2.5 yet) - www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=30...pic&start=45#p698654

      I will check the mywidth for 16col 1.5 against 16col 1.7 to see if same.

      Hope this helps 8)
      That would be great, thank you...I have used the 12-column width changer for J1.7 and it works great...I've updated that joomla installation to J2.5 and it does seem to work properly, seemingly without problems...
      But a J1.7(now 2.5) 16 column adaptation of the incredibly useful width changer feature had not been released, to my knowledge.

      Got a news site for which I want to increase a sidebar's width, but the options available in the Gantry Layout within the given overall width make it either too large or too small...adding some tens of pixels to the template's width would likely get me the desired width...

      Ok, just thought of something...as functional as Gantry scheme is with is layout options, sometimes one wants to have an exact width for a sidebar, or mainbody or whatever...
      It would be amazing if such functionality was included in Gantry...

      While I was checking Wordpress, some time ago, I ran into this theme which allows a "drag'n'drop" setting of column, choosing exact sizes in an easy way...
      www.pagelines.com/
      Don't know if it's possible in Joomla, but would be a great feature to have mid/longterm...

    • My client wants to make the template 1200px wide.

      I tried putting uploading the mywidth.php to a Halcyon 1.5 template but the width did not expand.

      It did seemed to make parts of the template more narrow. See attached.

      I can PM admin and ftp access.

      thank you

    • PLEASE read Davids post again.
      You need to put a value into the new field "my width" in the template settings and save that.
      Try values higher than 60 ...

    • Hi there,

      If you want 1200px width on a 12 column grid then you need column width set to 80

      Hope this helps 8)

    • Thank you, I have it working now. I had put this code in the wrong spot. For the sake of others, the bottom of template.Details.xml needs to look like this for 1200px wide site:

      <param name="experiment" type="gspacer" default="" description="" label=" " glabel="EXPERIMENTAL" />
      <param name="dyngrid" default="80" type="text" class="text-short" label="mywidth"/>
      </params>
      </install>

      However, even on a wide monitor, the site left justifies. My guess is there is no way to center the entire site? So how do I at least add padding to the left.

      I am using Halcyon with Joomla 1.5

    • Hi Deb,

      Have you changed anything else? The changes in my post have worked on each site I have tried.

      Can you provide a link to the site please?

    • I just PM'd you the login. Site is not viewable to the public.

      Your code worked, it just does not center the site on the page.

      Also, it was not a Rocketlauncher install.

      thank you

    • Hi Deb,

      Thanks for that. Have you changed the width for .rt-container? It is showing as 1600px and yet the main template areas are correctly set to 1180px (10px @side for margins).

      The slideshow is set to 974px and will float left in the 1600px container. The navigation default is to float right, also in the 1600px container. This is why everything looks off.

      Hope this helps 8)
