Gantry Broken - still, after ALL topics and troubleshooting

    • Okay so the biggest hint here is that everything was working perfectly for days as I designed my site, and then today the Gantry interface is mostly unusable. I think it's a javascript problem, the only thing that works are the heading sliders, and the input boxes.

The buttons, colour chooser popups, the layout sliders, everything is grayed out and just doesn't work. So, yes I have gone through all of the trouble shooting techniques. I've done all the error reporting and debugging. I've downgraded and upgraded Gantry right up to the most recent.

Like I said, it worked on this site, works on a sister site with the same content - so it's not my server settings, which are all fine. I even turned off all of the plugins to see if it was a script conflict and couldn't get it working.

Would really love if i could PM someone the login to check it out! It's like hack after hack after hack to try to use a rockettheme template without a working Gantry Framework. Oh, and I am Beta testing this adminpraise3 admin template, but as you can see the same problem exists with Khepri.

      Thanks in advance!

    • If i where you, i should reinstall your site with a rocketlauncher package.

    • That's how I started. It is a rocketlauncher package.

    • So gantry 3.1.7 was just released, I installed it. The installation was successful, the Joomla Extension Manager shows 3.1.7 being installed, but the gantry component is still showing the update gantry message and shows 3.1.6 as the current version.

Can someone from Rockettheme please take a look and see if they can figure out what's going wrong?

    • Awesome. i'm just going to clone the site and install everything fresh, off chance that that might somehow fix the problem. My guess though is that something is conflicting with Gantry rather than something being broken.

      Gimme a few minutes!

    • Well, I reinstalled every single module and plugin, made sure everything was activated, and Gantry worked. Then I imported the old DB and Gantry was broken. All that's in the DB is some K2 categories and items... and a few articles, so I have no idea.

Possible that I created some custom template adjustments for a menu item that was later deleted, if that could cause problems? Anyway, I'm most likely going to just rebuild the new site for now, add in the content to the new DB one section at a time to see where it breaks, if it does...

If it doesn't break I'll just close this thread.

    • There's nothing really 'gantry' related even stored in the database. All the configuration and the custom params etc, are stored in files in template folder itself.

However, the cache could be an issue. If you import an older db, you need to make sure you clear any caches as these are stored in the db and are dependent upon the version.

    • Yup, well I rebuilt the site from scratch and everything works fine - same plugins, same modules, same content... The ONLY thing I did differently was I did not install the sample data, which means I did not then delete a bunch of sample menus, mods, and articles I no longer needed.

I cleaned the caches up the yin yang on the old site, installed and reinstalled and enabled and disabled everything I could think of, and everything on the Gantry admin page was always greyed out and unusable:(

Since it's working, there's no problem - and if I can get my client to pay me for the extra day do-over...

Thanks for the quick responses tho!

    • hi marco,

just to make sure, you now used the rocketlauncher without sample data?

if so, please be aware of this:Kevin DuCommun wrote:
The RocketLauncher should never be used unless the sample data is installed. The whole point of the RocketLauncher is to give users a way to get up and running quickly by replicating the demo. All of this is accomplished with the use of the database information in the sample data sql.

Without installing sample data, the RocketLauncher is not only the same as a default joomla install with no sample data, but it will actually be badly broken as the launcher contains all of the files and directories for the extensions used in the demo, but none of the database information will be present.

This means that if a user installs the RocketLauncher, but does not install the sample data, most of the extensions will not work as they wont be detected by joomla, and attempting to install them will cause errors and fail because while Joomla doesn't see them, the directories and files are there.

Basically, there is nothing to gain by using the RocketLauncher without the sample data, and it will cause a whole lot of issues down the road.
