CG Icon, while that would work in many cases, I don't see it benefiting many people (apart from RT).
If a client were to come on to my site and see a "RT certified joomla dev", they'd follow the link, then turn around and ask me why their website cost them $1000 when they could have paid $60 for it. I can certainly justify the markup... but it's just not worth the aggravation (have you tried reasoning with noobs).
Plus within a week of me displaying my RT seal, there'd be 30 high school kids starting their own web dev businesses.. using RT, or some other template club. You'd be surprised how many people don't even know what joomla is or that it can be skinned with two clicks and a fart.
The fact of the matter is any ties to RT, or any other template club, is a liability for me. Andy knows this well... else he wouldn't give us the option of removing his footer link.
I know heaps of people will see things differently, and if they are a big enough group... by all means, bring on the Seal of Approval system.
well I Didnt ever think that the end user would display a seal on their clients sites.. it was more a marketing ploy for template clubs to differentiate between fly by nighters and those that have a nod and a wink from the CMS group themselves,, a mark of excellence for those in between the end user and the joom folks,,, us the web devs...
in all honesty, it has been shown, that if there is a perceived value,, even if it doesnt really exist,, but just perceived people will buy into it.
the fact is RT and WERX make the things people want and need and they make it the best as far as function,,, again,, if it were me ,, I would leverage that belief and generate a mark of percieved value for market position, becasue in the near future,, those high school kids are going to bring it on no matter what.....
there is nothing wrong with stating your the BMW of the template world and make people believe it,, what is terribly wrong is actually being the BMW of the template world and letting it slip away by being humble..
Thanks GollumX, and I have to agree with your latest point.
Every now and then I can come up with a decent website layout/design, but the fact of the matter is I'm much a better programmer and illustrator and rather see my productivity go there than sitting for hours trying to come up with a layout. RocketTheme will help with that, but by advertising that's what I use with a seal of some sort would cause problems. Like most of you, my customers don't know squat about building a website, all they know is they want it to look pretty and have snazzy graphics. They do not realize that it is the guts of the website that makes it "pretty" and functional, nor do I wish to waste the time explaining that to them. Until they can custom code modules, install and customize joomla, setup and configure databases & servers then they do not need to know how I do what I do, only that I do it right
