Stupid SEF Question

    • I notice this in the htaccess file:

"########## End - Rewrite rules to block out some common exploits

      # Uncomment following line if your webserver's URL
      # is not directly related to physical file paths.
      # Update Your Joomla! Directory (just / for root)

      # RewriteBase /______________"

Do I need to put the folder that the files are in here (underscored area)?? I tried it with brackets and w/o - didnt work either way?

    • RewriteEngine On
      RewriteBase /

this worked for me...but I don't think the original poster has been satisfied though...?

      thx CMYK and ALL!

    • To get nicer URL's you'll need to use a proper SEF component like AceSEF or JoomSEF as the default SEF url's just don't cut it for me.

I'm a little lost tho on what questions are still outstanding . . .

8trackmedia . . . you need to find a URL to add to a read more button?

If so, the links (without SEF turned on) are usually in the form:

      http://www. YOURSITE. com/ index. php? option= com_content& view= article&id=118 & Itemid=475

in the URL above the id=118 is article number 118, and Itemid=475 is the menu item you want highlighting or to appear in breadcrumbs, you can also add in category/section ID's also to complicate things further.

You can't use the URL you see in the admin area, that is ONLY for the admin area. Just alter the URL I mentioned above to include the article and menu ID's and you should be good to go.

P.S. - I added some extra spaces into the URL to stop it breaking apart, there should be none in the real url.

    • http:// www.mysite.com/ index.php?option=com_content&sectionid=-1&task=edit&cid[]=90
      (minus spaces)
i took out the "administrator" part

my links look like this--I can ONLY take it from the administrator area because I dont know where else to actually see the article. I dont want it on the front page....so where else is it?

I see Article ID: 90.... but i dont see the item id anywhere?

I feel like I am making the wrong type of article or something...

i tried the building the links (in the read more button) your way as well...the article id is 90 (i assume) --i do see a section id? -1???

      http://www. mysite. com/ index. php? option= com_content& view= article&id=90 & Itemid=-1

i get error messages 404 and 405 depending on my attempt variations....

i think this module that the "read more" button is in (that leads to the article in question) was part of the demo...does that make a difference??

what type of article should this be? (again, I dont want it on the front page)

at this rate...I will be long dead before this gets fixed.... ;(

      painful

      thx

    • OK, can you PM me details to your Admin area and also let me know where you want the URL added and 'what' you want it linked to.

Once I can see and understand exactly what you need doing, I can send you some screenshots to show you how to do it yourself.

    • I figured it out since your offer to have a look (thx again!)

I had to publish the article to the front page so that I could see the article AND the article's link...I then copied that link into the read-on button...and took the article down from the front page again...

Not that it matters now...but is there another way to do this?? Oh well...it worked.

Guess I will try the SEF components that you suggested next....can't wait. ;)

      Appreciated!
