    • I think keeping gantry structure would be fine if u can add responsive functionality to content.... 960px grid works fine on desktops and teblets and mobile view for phones is suficcient. The only problem is having to manage 2 sets of content per website. If u incorporated something similar to zentools from joomlabamboo that will take care of content and image sizing in mobile view it would be great - this way same menus and content could be applied to both views.

I feel that wveryone rushes to new trending technology even if the need doesnt exist. Its a lot eadier to design great look with fixed layout - template wise ... Rocketthemw never rushed to to be the first but but made sure to provide best implementation. Of technology that can be reused over and over again. - thats why this is the only club i keep renewing membership wit

    • Just to reassure everyone we are working vigorously on creating a brand new version of the Gantry framework that is being built fresh with responsiveness, faster performance, and even easier to use and configure as the driving factors.

Others have created one-off's that are responsive, but we are looking for a more complete solution that is built on the very best of all the responsive techniques out there. You will read that creating responsive sites is complicated, and that problem is only compounded by doing it for a CMS that drives a site with many 3rd party elements in place. For a responsive sit to really work, all the elements you use must also be responsive. This is a cold hard fact that is easy to gloss over in a demo, where you have complete control, but will make itself known very quickly when you try to build a site.

We have built our new building block extension "RokSprocket" from the very start to be responsive, and this will enable us to create feature-rich templates that are responsive. We also plan on updating our other key extensions like "RokGallery" to be responsive also. It currently is not, so using it in a responsive design would effectively break the responsiveness of any page it was on. This same fact goes for 99% of Joomla extensions out there: K2, JomSocial, 3rd party modules etc.

Anyway, we feel that in time these providers will also update their extensions to support responsive design, but again, it all will take time as it's a complicated problem and forces many compromises.

    • jfyi RokSprocket was already built with responsive webdesign in mind.

Please note that "JA Wall does not use T3 framework and given its responsive design it works well and fits on all the web enabled devices and mobile browsers" – so it's not so easy.

So its really a question of keeping the flexibillity of the template settings in Gantry that you all love with the needs of a responsive design. Responsive webdesign is really about setting strict limits for the content-creation. that is what the devs have to deal with. Imho Responsive is not the answer for everything but for sure it's the right solution for many things.

It's already possible to use adapt.js to change things.
But I don't think RT will move into that direction.
Gantry 4 will be very different I guess (without having too much insight into that project)

Edit: Andy just answered before I pressed "submit" ... 8)

    • Sounds great. Shape 5 recently stated they are going responsive in June.

You are always devaluing the templates from other vendors.
Do you think that God is RT?

      amusing ...

But none of the other clubs offer this range of options that RT offers.
That does not mean other templates are bad.
And that what I was talking about.
I'm a member of several clubs so I think I can say something about this.

Overall I don't see any religious aspects in template-creation.
But I can say its hard work.

And just to give you an answer: "no"

Henning, I regret that you have not caught the mood of my message.

Next time I will write in English and German. So there will be no linguistic confusion.
