    • Thanks for the quick reply..

Does that mean features like the integrated ajax cart will no longer be available in this version?

    • Hi, nothing for VM is included in the release, so no those features are not available.

    • Okay, Virtuemart 2.1 Stable is out. I am using it. Is Rockettheme.com going to have a template that works with the new Virtuemart?

    • Possibly at some point we will, currently we do not. There is no official release date for a 2.5 mynxx VM theme and no others are planned to be released at this time. That is all I know.

Developing themes for VM and other third party platforms is not our focus, we've been doing the new Gantry and responsive designs, as that is what the majority of our membership has been requesting.

    • As we've been discussing here in great detail, the Joomla 2.5 version of Mynxx does not have a Virtuemart theme or any styling for Virtuemart elements.

Virtuemart will still work, but it will use the default styling that it comes with, not the Mynxx template styling. It will actually work with any of our templates, but none of them have styling for Virtuemart. It's not a functionality issue, it's an appearance difference. VM completely changed it's theme system in the newer releases and the original version will not work for that reason.

Also, as I've said, when and if we update Mynxx for Virtuemart / Joomla 2.5 has not been finalized and there is no available time frame on when it could be released. Mynxx is a 3 year old template, it doesn't use Gantry and is considered a legacy theme and may not receive any further updates.

The fact that it is the only VM theme we ever released should tell you how much importance we put on VM themes. Every ecommerce theme released since has used different platforms than VM. If you need something Joomla 2.5 that is VM compatible, we have nothing to offer at this time. Our focus is developing themes for our products, not the products developed by others.

    • Hi Cliff

I appreaciate you taking the time to answer this thread.
I also understand and accept your arguments. However, there is one major point which is being missed by the team:

There are a huge number of Virtuemart users out there and the interest is apparently very high for a quality product to be developed by Rockettheme. Why? Because you do it well. I personally have made almost exclusive use of Rockettheme products since its inception and have never regretted it. I have also used virtuemart for most of the shops I have built, as I find that despite it's shortcomings - and there are many - it's the one solution available that provides the features needed and which can be relatively easily taught to use by my clients.

Both Rockettheme and Virtuemart bring a lot to the Joomla table, so is there any surprise that there are so many people interested in being able to use them together? I suspect that it's a market which is being dramatically underestimated by Rockettheme and would present a significant business opportunity within the joomla community.

      Regards
      David

    • I'd appreciate some additional 'shopping cart' type templates with full integration of VM and/or other systems. eCommerce solutions are some of the hardest templates to make look 'right' and also to configure. If RT was able to produce some of these rather than the bog standard "business" type templates, I would love it.

    • Hi, it's not that I don't understand where you guys are coming from, I hear what you're saying. I'm just giving the honest answers about why VM isn't something we focus on. If I could give you an easy solution I certainly would.

This is just part of using templates from one developer and components from another - once you start mixing and matching developers, it's never going to look how you want right out of the box. No one developer can make products that will do everything everyone wants all the time and accommodate products from every other developer out there. That's why our club is priced low compared to hiring a dedicated developer - a good developer might charge per hour what we charge for a year long membership. That trade off comes at a price, you save money and get a good start, but you'll need to do custom work on your own to make it what you want.

One reason for VM's popularity is because it's free - and you get what you pay for in a lot of cases. You might be expecting too much from an affordable template club and a free component to work together perfectly with a ton of beautiful designs and flawless functionality. It's just not reality. Complex websites and eCommerce solutions are ofter more complicated than hitting the download button a few times.

The reality is that VM is a logistical nightmare for us. The old version was filled with bugs, people used hacks to get around them - everyone was using a customized version of VM to get around all of the issues it had. Our theme did not support the hacks in some cases and it's impossible to offer support with that. We can't test for hacks or offer solutions to get around them and our devs and testers get buried with tickets, questions ECT that we can't provide answers for. It's not our fault that VM is the way it is - that's all them.

We simply don't have the resources to fix 3 year old templates based on what another developer does to their software. And we do not provide themes for products that we know people will have issues using. I think it's safe to say that most of us here would do anything to steer people away from VM, that's a big reason we do not cater to it - we don't trust it. I certainly don't, I would try 10 other things before I even thought about using it.

That's my honest answer, sorry if you don't agree. There are other companies that cater to it exclusively, or you can dig into the codes and customize it yourself. As far a a plug and play solution for VM from us - can't say there will be one anytime soon.
