Virtuemart vs Hikashop vs Mijoshop

    • Please, I need lots of opinions and recent experiences. It seems that every 6 months one cart jumps ahead of the others. I love Ecwid but they only offer 10 products free now.

On the Joomla extensions page Virtuemart has dropped down to the bottom but that may be because they released the new version before all the bugs were worked out?

      extensions.joomla.org/extensions/e-commerce/shopping-cart

      Thank you

    • Actually, the other post was about Magento. I'm looking for opinions on the best Joomla cart.

    • Although the other also mentioned Magneto, the substance was almost exactly the same before you edited this one.

    • Yes, but the title of the other does not mention "Virtuemart vs Hikashop vs Mijoshop".

By creating a new thread, I'm trying to attract more opinions.

    • That's a real bummer about Ecwid. However, that was not unexpected. They're a big operation, getting bigger all the time.

I just started using K2store ( k2store.org ) on a project, and it's been a real joy to work with.

It is NOT as robust as Ecwid. It won't manage stock and it does take quite a bit of K2 knowledge to get the most out of it. But I like it a lot. And It's Practically Free. :cheesy:

As you point out, VM is the sick old man of Joomla! these days. I tried running the new version in a site a few months back and was really disappointed.

Magento can be integrated with Joomla, but for the time you'll spend making the bridge, you might as well just pay Ecwid. ...man, that is a senseless leap (I just looked), $15 for 100, $35 for 2500... why not $25 for 1000. I digress.

      Please see David's opinion here:

      He makes some good points.

    • Thank you for the K2Store.org direction.

I've never got my brain around the need for the extra level of complexity for K2. It seems great for very large sites (about which I'm about to build for the first time).

What do you like about K2 and have you used the digital downloads aspect of K2Store.org?

      Thank you

I recommend K2 for everyone. Once you get past the initial set up (which can be a bit complicated for beginners) the day to day use of K2 is more streamlined - faster, easier.

For instance, let's say you want to create content for
      Your Business
      Your Products
      And A Blog.

For a Business Category, this may include things like testimonials, about us, directions, etc.
For this you don't want to show the author, or allow people to use a rating system, or comment, you just want to display core info about your organization. In that category you turn all these features off. Anytime you publish under the business category you do so knowing these features won't be included.

For a Blog Category you want all those features you turned ON. This way the reader knows who wrote the story and they have the option to rate it, comment, etc.

On A Products Category, you want all those features on. But you also want "Extra Fields" tied to them which will include the specifications for each product. Ex: Height, Width, Weight, etc.

This is also where K2Store comes in. All K2 store does is include the option to buy the item. The rest is managed by K2 itself.

I have not used the digital downloads bit yet.

If you decided to go with K2Store, make sure you first have an understanding of K2. Watch tutorial videos on setting up categories and creating items.

    • I've been messing with Mijoshop, but I can say this. Do you want to install and configure a shopping cart, or do you want to install a tool that requires you to do a heck of a lot of work in a CCK just to get your store going? I've never tried it (and don't use K2), but just installing and tweaking a new site with Mjishop only took me a few hours-and that included buying and installing a responsive theme for it (which you don't NEED to have, but it's nice if you want it) and tweaking a bunch of css to better match my theme. Their support is GREAT and I've even installed a few opencart plugins already.

That's the other benefit. A gigantic eco system for Opencart that is now available to you.

    • I've just installed K2store.org and like the idea (every article has a cart option). I would not advise K2store if the main purpose of the site is a shopping cart.

Sounds like Mijo is the way to go for big carts.

      Sorry, what is CCK?
