Virtuemart vs Hikashop vs Mijoshop

    • Hi All,
Wondering if anyone has had any experience with wholesale websites in Hikashop vs Mijoshop (I have conveniently forgotten Virtuemart!). I've built two sites in Mijoshop and for general retail it's great and works a treat (and responsive). For wholesale though it's getting a little frustrating on two areas:

handling product minimum's, it's fine from the product page, but requires a few tweaks such as adding minimum quantity to cart from category pages and related products rather than 1 (fixed this but annoying have to adjust the code to do this and display qty field on those pages).

Access permissions for products and the store in general. I peaked through Hikashop's demo and noticed they have access level by product which looks like a better integrated option than tweaks or vq mods available through Mijoshop. After adding a vqmod for permissions by customer group it hid the product or category but left a blank space in the store grid/lists!

I love Mijoshop but I think the wholesale side is where Mijoshop lets things down a little. I'm about to take on two projects which are wholesale websites closed to the general public (requiring signup for access) and wondered if any developers here had any experience of both and what is best suited for wholesale? I'm torn to battle on with Mijoshop or take a leap to Hikashop for Wholesale specific requirements!

    • I have a VM shop with 600 products. We only use the catalog layout, and don't plan to add a cart any time soon. We are upgrading to Joomla 3.2 and exploring other options.

      1. Does anyone know of a VM --> K2 migration tool?

      2. Does the K2 products system keep track of things like SKU and Price?

    • @Shenna : i dont think the K2-shop is developed enough to be a real competitor of Ecwid / Virtuemart or Hikashop.
(Hikashop is integrated in K2 as well)

@Jaimie & @Yaani : Mijoshop has been taken off JED, because of certain violations.

Virtuemart seems to be dying it its own clutter.

HIKASHOP is definitely the way to go now.. safe yourself future headaches, theyre the best for full & easy yet robust Joomla integrations

    • Hi Yaani, let me know how it is going with that add on? I've been meaning to try it when I get onto my next project. I have been using the bootstroft theme from the mijoshop med and have changed most of the templates files to take advantage of the gantry layout and it has gone very well to-date. Bootstroft by itself was not very good on mobiles but after some modification it works a treat. I am using Rocket Theme's Anacron Theme.
On the subject of Virtuemart vs Hikashop vs Mijoshop and my previous dilema of possibly switching store components on this topic, I stuck with Mijoshop and got my head into the modifications I needed and I have not regretted sticking with Mijoshop.

    • Hi Jaimie, I installed the free mijoshop responsive template in a site with the Paradigm template here www.gulfcoastcorvette.com/ The store part of the website seems to be responsive now with no modifications needed (I just need to make some css changes for the colours to match the template).

So far I like Mijoshop & they provide excellent & fast tech support when needed.

    • Thanks Yani, that site looks great. I'll try that free responsive template next time round!
