SOLVED Sudden long delay in site load

  • SOLVED Sudden long delay in site load

Posted 8 years 3 months ago
    • Would someone mind looking at a site (template) for me? Two days ago it started to have an 11 second delay in loading each page. It seems like there is a script issue maybe with mootools but I can't think of a thing that has changed to affect the site. I have been trying to clean up old extension but to no avail. Any pointers would be appreciated!

    • I would ask your host because the server is not responding for nearly 12 seconds from the initial request (i.e. the delay is on the server not a local script once the site has downloaded).

But I do note that you are not using a compressor at all (e.g. rokbooster). Rokbooster has to be tuned to your particular environment and extensions - this is not something we can do for you as part of this support forum. I encourage you to read the rokbooster documentation to learn how to add exclusions and change the many other settings in rokbooster. Once tuned rokbooster will speed up your site so it's worth the effort.

Also, make sure global configuration cache is set to conservative and gzip compression is on.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Thank you MrT. This is what I was noticing but was told it wasn't the host. This didn't make sense to me since the latency was upfront and a predicdable 11.5 ish seconds.

As far as the compression goes, I have all my solutions turned off at the moment trying to sort this out. When I have them running it does make a major difference in load times. That said, even with them off when the host is responding it loads pretty well.

I will go back to my host on this issue then.

    • Yes go back to your hosting company. I'm afraid that on a lot of "shared" hosting services the host deliberately overload the server with more domains that it can really handle... That's why it always pays to find a go hosting company.

    • I would like to add that FTP loads fine and also the admin side of Joomla is loading fine so I am stumped again. Could a problem with the host only be symptomatic with the front end of the site?

    • Yes it could...

But do make sure that all RT products are up to date too.

    • So far no one can figure this out. This site has run great for over two years. The host did change the apache handler and that gave a boost in the admin side but the front end is still hanging. As far as I know the RT stuff is up to date including the max Ganty 4 as of a couple weeks ago.

Any other ideas are so appreciated.

    • clone the site (use Akeeba backup and Kickstart)... try it locally, try it on a different server if you can - my guess is that it will be fine elsewhere so it does point to it being your server....

    • At the momnent I am unable to clone the site due to large video files or something keeping me from completing Akeeba from backing up.

This was one of the last comments from the host. I think were are simulating what your recommendation was?

When executing the index.php code on the server, it finishes instantly.

When accessing it over the web, it waits for 11 seconds before giving the browser any data.

This implies that mysql is not the issue and something is buggy with your site code.

Do you have a qualified developer you can reach out to?

I ran the Joomla debug and it showed 8 duplicate queries but I don't think those matter much. My guess is they have been there along with the 112 queries. The issue still seems that once the site decides to load after 11 seconds it loads fine. I am mystified at the initial wait since the backend runs fine and regular html pages in other directories load fine as well.

Thank you for your time on this matter. Do you know anyone (for hire) that could help?
