Mr. FutureGuy, please let me repeat something from my earlier post. Your reply indicates that you did not read it.

Oops, you're right, great point, my bad for shoddy reading comprehension

(interesting discussion nonetheless, hope mods don't mind this convo veering off topic a bit).

The point that some are trying to make here is that the new template (and a few others recently) haven't really been anything new. Maybe at the pace of every other month one tiny new bell or whistle is added.

The point about blogging then and now is well taken and I think about that a lot.

The question is then, if there is nothing new to present then why do we pay for a monthly template club that made its name by coming up with innovative and attractively DESIGNED templates that can be manipulated with CSS and a little Photoshop/Fireworks work? Not zipped CSS and Gantry controlled "RT-Block" CSS permeating everything.

This thread itself is a testament to that fact. It used to be buzzing for days with anticipation and everyone would exclaim WOW! upon the release. Now its "ho-hum, a new template" 10 or so posts a month.

Rockettheme has been too interested in Ganty, Wordpress, Drupal, Magento and whatever other revenue streams they can come up with, and they have lost a lot of their WOW factor for pure design. Their business model is obviously shifting from designer/developer focus to end user focus. So much for dancin' with who brought ya.

This is true and respectful thinking. I didn't reply to this so it'll sound like a revolution. I replied cause I am disappointed!
But there's no wow for a very long time. In fact, the only wow thing (but also staring-at-the-stars-kinda-not-simple-thinking) was the photo gallery. I didn't want to say this. Other names on the market... and small names in comparison to RT, launched HTML5 templates. And this is wow!
I had 2 big wows. One was almost one year ago when I've discovered the true power of RT at that time, second with the photo gallery and a smaller wow with the rokfeature table. The rest was same old annoying complicated and good-for-almost-nothing layouts and designs. Where's the travel template, the real estate, the autoshow templates? where's are the ones that market needs so badly?
Well, the truth is Gantry is WOW and that's a fact. But there's also T3 on the market. Dunno which to like better. Anyways, Gantry is a free to use product. For RT templates I did pay.
Don't know, maybe you've got bored or tired or simply don't want our wows anymore for God knows what strange reasons. But you're way behind in so many aspects, I don't want to lose my time and spell them all.
Make us WOW! AGAIN! So I'll renew my subscription!

    • Rockettheme with Gantry is still an extremely solid choice for a web developer, but the key of the problem is really well stated here by Conan
Their business model is obviously shifting from designer/developer focus to end user focus.

As a developer/web designer I always have to deconstruct a chosen Rocket theme template to fit closely my own design and insert my own favorites modules, composants and all (rarely Rocket modules).
After few years with Rocket, my technique is to really adapt, cleanup and relativly heavily customize a choosen template to make it reusable easily to fit any design or demand.

The difference with a template for a simple user that need a beautiful web site and a web developer that need extreme flexibility of framework to fit any demands from companies or organisation that need a web sites is to great to put the 2 systems in the same category.

I propose a solution to Rocket that will probably be benefiacial for them, developers and simple users alike in a new thread in :

—> Pathway: Board index ‹ Members Only ‹ Requests

Title: Basic flexible template for designer & web professionals?

      http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=16&t=149819&rb_v=viewtopic

I choose a close Club section of the forum because I think this should be a discussion betwen Rocket and all serious developers that propose Joomla sites to their clients.

    • I think the last few templates from RocketTheme have been way more "usuable" with a style that isn't too much.

Some people use the templates as an end product. Some use it as a starting point to save them the foundation time of getting a design together.

I think wild and unique designs are great but they don't do my business much good to crank out 4 week projects for School Districts and Local Government websites. If we want something unique, we design it from scratch. Then we use a template from a club that resembles what we need so that we can customize that template to our custom design.

For example - our new company website that offers Managed Website Services and Hosting is the Modulus template. Most probably wouldn't know that through when they look at it at first glance: www.joomgo.com

I'm using more RocketTheme templates these last 6 months then I have in the years of being a member here. I like Gantry, I really like the latest designs and I'm turning into a huge MissionControl fan.

      That's just my 2cents :) Rock On!

    • in my company, we are occupying Gantry Framework more than any other payment template, because we design from scratch... sometimes, a few customers want a design of RT.

Some templates like Modulus or the old Versatility are very useful for almost any project work... I would love something like that for December

    • I agree with a lot of the sentiments that have been expressed. I do though still feel comfortable with Rocket Theme and feel its worth hanging in there for another year. The problem is maybe we are looking for the perfect template to customize and sometimes it is hard to decide which one to use.
I have actually been using some templates from Theme Forest that are built on Gantry. It makes me appreciate even more the possibilities that Gantry offers -- the fact that we wait for a new template to show up from Rocket Theme every month and hope "this will be the one" and then when we see it and it does not have that wow factor, the next month seems so far off. I know that I need to bite the bullet and start doing my own gantry based designs and not waiting for the perfect theme (that may never appear). In the end the amount of customization you would do to a monthly RT release vs building your own design on a gantry platform might be about the same.
