    • Look at the post from Cretan Studies Association

      — My advice for 2012 —
Go for flexibility, with template that use all the power of Gantry and give lot of flexibility to control the design by the users.

You guys already incorporate lot of the functions here, but what’s missing it’s to give more simple control in the final design and harmonization of the overall look.

The main aera to give maximum control is the header (what I use to describe the frontal , first impression part of a template) with the logos, top tools bar, slideshows, background images, modules and text. The heart of the template

A user should be able to do whatever they want with the “header”. More flexibility you will give to the users there and more people will flock to RocketTheme.
(D’ont forget to add flexibility amd control to the user over the mobile side of the template.)

After that the only thing you have to do is to concentrate to make RocketTheme framework and extensions the lean mean machine to reach for the stars.

For the “Page” or the rest of the template, control and harmonisation of all title, component title, page title. Simple control over the module title, drag and drop placement, transparency of body and more...

Have fun and we will have fun together...

Tho this is obviously not 100% true (the feedback of our customers is an invaluable source) it won't be our goal to make everything configurable in the templates.
That is not because of deafness to our customers' needs – that is due to some practical reasons.
The most important one is performance. And some things are just better done via plain css. It's faster and more efficient. (just mentioning relative fontsizes as an example here)

      True wisdom.

Steve Jobs said something similar when he released the first fruity iMacs!

Some things you just cannot conceive or design based on opinion polls and market research - you need to dream of something new and very different - and then give people the things they never knew they wanted :cheesy:

    • Hi all,

I've been monitoring this thread in my inbox and thought it time to chime in.

Wow, there really is a lot of unfair and harsh stuff here recently, and as for recent templates - I reckon a few of them have been the best and most easily customisable for a long time. I too will say that Modulous was a hidden gem, so easily changed to make a nice clean site. Momentum too is so easily customisable to create a nice clean site.

There was a time where I really struggled to even contemplate many RT templates, as they were too stylised and too different to create a normal, everyday, nice looking site. And I fear that this thread is demanding more of those template types - too far out there to use for most people, but good for the few.

It also seems much of the discontent here is from DEVS, not from the overwhelming customer base of RT, who remain the silent majority, and whom I imagine are NOT devs.

But maybe this is highly valuable feedback for RT to reconsider their business model to go to places where others do not, and be the leader in new fields of demand from the CMS?

Besides the unfair stuff, I do think there has been much valued input here covering many different areas, and I don't want to express my opinion in either direction. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and to shop accordingly to their own needs and desires. While everybody needs to keep in mind that they all must wait their turns for a template style they want to come their way - because everyone has different needs and you cannot please every person on every template release.

And from my own opinion and desires for templates, I will agree with one previous poster, and restate as I have said before…

The padding, margins and titles are often way oversized, and this pattern follows from template to template. It would be nice to have an occasional template at least - which breaks this pattern and creates more modest proportions within these elements.

I have to say my favourite template from RT has been Mynxx, but I could never use it as I lack the ability to alter graphic images to more suitable colours, and I still cannot imagine a site where I will ever use a black theme. A similar template style in the future with some colour options would be very very sweet.

      Love RT.

Yes it is really important to stay focus on the excellent work that Rocket bring us. I still come back here for the strong quality and professionalism of their services. Rocket Rock, simple.
In my case, I don‘t want to be critical, I just express wishes that are important to me, in my situation.
