in addition to the normal suffixes you can find 26 structural suffixes, these affect the layout and metrics of the module that remove every padding/margin you can think of ...

      - rt-center: centres the content of the module.
      - shadow2-10 adds varying shadows around the module.
      - rounded, square, basic: changes the border style of the module.
      - standardcase, uppercase, lowercase: change the case of the module title.
      - nomargintop, nomarginright, nomarginbottom, nomarginleft, nomarginall: removes the various margins around the module.
      - nopaddingtop, nopaddingright, nopaddingbottom, nopaddingleft, nopaddingall: removes the various paddings around the module

      Henning!!!!! Thank you!!!!

This needs to be a standard page within every template's demo...a full list of module suffixes.

    • I saw the pages....I love it.

I was just saying this needs to be a fully documented item and standard in every template. :-)

    • Henning,

Thanks so much for the module variation pointers! I will be sure to experiment with those.

Can't wait to try out Clarion on a new project! :D

And while you're at it build a nice CMS around it...
      Something like that ?

    • Most people have no clue how to look at a template of what it can be vs. what it is at the moment. These would be people who have very lacking knowledge of css and or html. Moreover, people seriously lack any type of photoshop / fireworks skills to formulate anything they want whatsoever.

so, a natural struggle that RT or any template company will have is creating a template that is so versitille that it will represent everyone's needs.

Now, IMHO the two templates regarding shopping carts from RT have been very strong. however, it did take me a while to formulate things like the "menu" to the exact way I wanted it to become. What really sucks is that I almost forget what edits I made and hope I don't have to ever do them again. Backup backup backup... not just akeeba but actual files as well.

To the current template - I have to say that the versatility aspect was greatly improved but the complaint about the overall large menu and logo positioning is of clear concern... I don't see the versatility in a menu such as that.

If I had any input in RT theme at all I would say this. Microsoft has actually done something amazing. That have out forward thought Apple and or android with their metro style design. When windows 8 comes out this year the design of what is clean, clear, and practical is going to get turned on its head. simplicity is starting to win the day.

Look at www.weather.com - This is a SUPREME example of a company getting it. Oh man I wish I could do a before and after of weather.com but the after is so clean, so simple and so efficient I love it.

The artistry is in the subtly of the design with enough graphic to get the point across and nothing else. It flows, it's clean, and it's invigorating. In fact, you can even see that many of their other components use the old style graphics of shadows and rounded corners and the blah blah blah.

      www.microsoft.com/presspass/imagegallery..._startScreen_web.jpg

This is a picture of what the metro design is in its windows 8 form but that is the inspiration to me that is forward thinking rather than not.

Here is another direct example www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-US/howto/wp7/default.aspx ...

but it doesn't stop there. Fox News which had a horrible site before has gone the metro route. www.foxnews.com/ ...

All I am saying this styling seems simpler and easier to implement and would provide for an awesome template if one were tried.

    • Good ideas and conversations going here. I just have to say (and this comes with YEARS of experience) that if we were to release a template with the degree of minimalism of weather.com or foxnews.com, etc, there would be a member outcry that the template was too basic and boring. Without the actual 'weather' content and 'news' content of these sites, the 'template' that they are built on is basically non-existent. We are a template company and we have to be able to create something that can standalone with barely any content. It is EXTREMELY hard to balance this sometimes.

News and Magazine sites are hardest of all, because the very best of them, have practically no styling at all, as their content doesn't need to be overshadowed by the design. Business templates, such as Clarion are also quite hard for the same reason. They need to be lightweight and clean, but at the same time, not boring. This is difficult to do as a template. Just look at the responses we've had about Clarion so far, some people find it too boring and are very focal about how unimpressed they are, and then others love it and think it's perfect for their needs.

I personally think Clarion is an incredibly usable design. It's very clean and modern looking, but at the same time has lots of little subtle bits to give any design a professional look. I've very proud of this one, I really think it strikes that balance really well.

Regarding your comments on logo/menu size etc, we of course build our templates to be very flexible. If you want the space to be smaller, it's just a matter of tweaking a few heights in the css file. Takes less than 2 minutes.

    • There is much about design that is in the eye of the beholder. I see nothing at all special about Weather.Com, except that it presents the information that I want. FoxNews.Com is certainly pleasing to the eye, with nice color balance and tight structure, but it doesn't strike me as revolutionary, nor do I wish to see too many sites following their example.

Variety is a feature, not a bug. I've been browsing sites for inspiration a lot lately, and the group that appealed to me was composed of designs that were as different as salt and pepper. Don't get too obsessive about a specific school of thought, with regard to design. No matter what is trendy today, it will become 'old crap' in no time at all.
