How To Start a Blog Section

    • I think your newbie 101 is a great idea. It will also be a fall-back position for experienced users who forget their fundamentals, and start over-thinking their problems.

I'll do as you suggest and try the different methods of getting the files to the server. The fact is, Godaddy doesn't allow an upload that is the size of the TT package. So I had to Unzip it, split it in half, rezip it in two zip files, upload to the server, create the install directory, unzip the two files....then install.

Perhaps "I" am the problem! :o

I hope this is working out for you John, let me know.

    • Having a rough day today, and not much time to play with the site. I did manage to try three different methods of installation today, and none worked. The split menu is still a problem. Funny thing is, the host has a dedicated Joomla link designed especially for installations. I tried it with the basic template and everything works great. But when installing the TerranTribune with the split menu, it only displays the 2nd tier menu items associated with whatever the default menu item is.

So...it looks like "I" am not the problem. But it is related to the installation. I did notice that I have an option to install DNS when building the mysql database. Don't know if that matters, but I never have chosen that option. Didn't see how DNS would matter in this case.

There is one other aspect....This is a windows-based server....not apache. Because I'm using IIS, do you think there may be a configuration within that service that might cause this?

      Headin' for home now....

    • Also...when talking to godaddy tech support today, I guess I have to understand that while they can help me with hosting issues, they can't really delve into the intracacies of Joomla, or draw connections about what affects what.
I think my only hope is to slowly acquire knowledge of the system until I can identify what defines the lower menu bar on a split menu. Once I know that, maybe I can figure out what is interferring. Or maybe someone who knows that particular aspect will see this thread and pop in. All I really need is to know which file controls that aspect of the split menu. I'm pretty good at spotting code if I know where to look.

Nevertheless, I need to get the site organized in the correct fashion. From what we went over yesterday, I can see that I need to structure my sections and categories correctly. So tonight, I'll pick a heading and reorganize it through all the menu items. I'm kinda slow, so I'll take it slow and methodical.

    • Just to give an update...the revamping of the site is going well. In the past 24 hours, I've redone Men, Women, and Kids. They all follow their color codes perfectly, have good menus to follow, each one has a roknewsrotator and each one has a nice set of rokmininews panels.

It took me about 8 hours to get Men done, just because I was being careful and getting use to it. But sitting here at work and juggling my schedule, I got Kids done in less than 2 hours.

Sure is nice to understand what things are. :)

    • I'm having the same problem with splitmenu on godaddy's servers. Any idea what the fix is?
