"error on page" message when uploading template change
Posted 16 years 3 days ago
Hello;
I am new, so please forgive me with this question if this is not the place to ask it.
I am trying to upload a new template ( Joomla ) in my admin panel.
When I do this, the page says "error on page" in the lower left hand corner.
Then the page freezes for a bit, then comes back.
I watched the viudeo tutorial and did it exactly the same, and I keep getting the
source code saying "error on page" in the lower left hand corner.
I have the MYNXX e-commerce template installed, and that went fine.
Now I am trying to upload changes to the layout and the admin interface seems
to have some kind of trouble in its script somewhere.
Can anyone tell me why this page is saying this to me?
Also, when I go and try to click ona different template to make as "default" the pop up window says "you need to select a template first"....but of course I did that already in clicking the radio button.
Perhaps something is code-broken on this admin page on the Joomla side?
Please advise, as I cannot move forward without uploading my design changes.
Thank you.
With great respect to all of you!!!

Thank YOU!!!!!
You are by far a lifesaver!!!!
I am soo impressed with this site and service.
JEM, I want to send you a thank you card.
Also, I am the owner of a large R/C lighting system manufacturer.
We make our own-custom Radio Control R/C LED lighting systems for Global applications.
Do you happen to own any R/C's? I would be proud to send you several sets for you and your buddys as a thank you for all your help.
One other question: I have changed the art in the fireworks PNG files for the MYNXX e-com template. How do I upload thos back into their folders to replace current ones?

Thank YOU!!!
Okay, so in Fireworks, the various art files have "green" layers on them.
These layers have file names on them. How do I separate these images to upload separately?
Can't I just upload the entire Fireworks file, then the various images in that file will automatically go to their respective places in the template online? If not, this is a great feature to add in my humble opinion. Please advise then, do I need to copy and paste each individual piece of art into separate new file, then re-save, then re-upload to overwrite existing file?
Man, what a pain............it will take all day to do that.
Is there an easier way to upload the new art files for the MYNXX template all at once?
Why are they then all in the same fireworks file? Meaning, all the buttons in the same file, etc. only to have to be removed one-by-one if you want to change their appearance?
Just wondering...forgive me if these are stupid questions.
I am not a programmer, but my art background is 25+ years. I have no problem changing the art files, but a pain to have to re-save them all separately then upload all separately.
Thanks for any reply you can offer.

First, could you explain a little more about what you've done or you're trying to do?
Second, have you check out the color customization options in the Template Manager?
Extensions > Template Manager > rt_mynxx_j15
Did you notice there's are two preset styles for green, along with an input box for Primary Color?
You may be able to customize most of your colors that way....
And third, as far as the Fireworks question, since I'm not an 'expert' on that, you'd probably be better off starting a new topic in the Fireworks or Mynxx forum itself.

Dear JEM;
Okay, I downloaded firefox and I still get the same "error message" in the template manager section. What happens is this: I click on the radio button on the template under "extension manager" section. I choose MYNXX button to edit, then click the "edit" button. I get a pop-up window that states "you must choose a template first" and the code error message in the lower left hand corner that says "error on page".
So I guess this is something else funky going on with the Joomla interface maybe????
Can this be fixed please, because I cannot even edit my Joomla pages for content without getting past this screen.
Regarding the "design changes" I spoke about: I was referring to actually changing the look of the pieces of art in the template itself. The "template manager" allows for "basic changes" like txt color, etc, but I am talking about changes to all the "fades and gradients" and backgrounds, etc. So this is offered by a download of all those pieces of art at Joomla. The files are all firefox PNG files, which is fine, firefox is awesome program. I downloaded free-trial and off and running. BUT.......now how do I re-upload the pieces of art to the site? Meaning, I am not stupid, so I know to upload via my FTP client, but the issue is there are MANY pieces of art that are in just 2-3 firefox file pages. Do I have to separately save each one of these pieces of art in their original names then upload each one separately to overwrite the previous?
This would not be a "time positive" way of doing things for Joomla. I would recommend they take that final step and make it so that entire fireworks file can be re-uploaded and have it do its magic in replacing all the previous art files in the template. They have gone soo far in giving us this great fireworks file with all the art to edit, so they can go that final step and let us re-upload it in its entirety.
Thanks again for being an incredibly brilliant person!!!!!!!!
I only hope to become 1/100th of the ability all of you have.
The only way to learn is to ask dumb questions.....but then don't ask the same dumb question twice, right??? LOLOLOL
With GREAT respect to all of you!!!!!

1. I have never seen this error message before, only searched for it on joomla.org and provided the links... I thought this was fixed...
2. As far as a magic fix, at this time there isn't one so the upload and replace is your only option.
And in reference to #1.... if it's still a problem and you have gotten too far in customizing your content, or even if you have, you might consider starting over again with a fresh install.

Dear Jem;
Regarding #1 issue, I have not done any customizing within the Joomla install on the server.
This is all as-is from the initial upload. Nothing has been altered.
So, I will keep trying, but at some point it needs to fix itself otherwise can;t use the product.
Just for info, purposes, I am on a HP Pavillion machine, 4GIG of RAM, 3.8 processor, duel core.
Plenty of guts to get-er done. So I am not sure what's up. Also, just an FYI, when in the admin section, in any category on top, when I go to click "save" or "edit" buttons on top right pages they do nothing, then freeze all buttons for future navigation throught admin.
Wondering if maybe something happened during upload of install????
Thanks again for your awesome help.
You are a TRUE teacher and have great patience.
I will go re-upload the entire package again and start over.
If this happens again I will let you know, perhaps it is something in the software at that point.
I can't keep re-installing every day, at some point have to wonder if it's in the code on Jommla side. I feel like an idiot even saying that because I don't know CRAP about anything!!!!
