hi guys, i've been a member for a couple of months now and id like to renew but ive decided not to because its just too difficult to get these sites working without a degree in computer design.
The turorial starts with 'so you've installed you site and its looking great'???????? Ive just downloaded and unzipped the versatility site and its just a psd file which wont open - no css - no html file to edit, macromedia doesnt like it. Its a shame as the designs are great looking. the last site I used from rocket theme I had to find someone else with the site, take their html code, and then edit it that way using macromedia!!! cant you just produce it in html format with the css files for design as some people find it much easier to edit that way?
just a hint on how to maybe keep customers longer that dont know as much as much about computer prog. language as you.

Thanks for the comment David. First I think a lot of questions are really joomla questions and not specifically template questions, for those there are much better source of information such as help.joomla.org, or forum.joomla.org, and now there's a great pdf manual for joomla:

For questions regarding customization, a lot of the questions we see are HTML and CSS questions, again there are lots of great books and sites that cover these things in detail, we simply don't have the resources to rehash that same information here.
We've tried to help out by adding more comments in the css, and posting tutorials and the like. This is something that we will focus more and more on in the coming year.

Ok, this may not be politically correct but ......... I see you have a total of two posts here, one of which is this thread. Perhaps you would have had more success if you had asked for more assistance by posting your questions here. I am certainly no expert but I have put up a few sites and am always willing to help with the novice stuff. As for the more difficult questions, there is a wealth of knowledge residing in these members.
If you have questions, speak up and you will get assistance here - provided it is template related. For Joomla questions I would suggest the Joomla site but there have been several helpful posts here that provided links to some great resources.
I am not trying to call you out, I am sorry that you won't be staying on as I think there is a great deal to be gained from the professionals here.

Agreed. This is in no way an attack on David. But I think there is a lot of confusion in terms of Joomla-related things and RocketTheme/template related things. Andy, maybe you can do a short overview. The FIRST thing anyone must do is to properly set up joomla. This is the hardest part, in my opinion. Here's one I did:
HOW to SET UP Joomla.
***Please refer to http://www.joomla.org/ (on the left side) for the latest version of Joomla.
1) Configure your MySQL database (your webhost should have some guide to help)

2) Download Joomla 1.0.12-Stable-Full_Package.zip (sometimes it's on the last page, 3)

the PSD file you downloaded is not meant to work as a template on your site. The Photoshop and Fireworks files are add-on source files for those who want to do some advanced graphics customizing.
You need to download the "Versatility template" file (or, in case of Versatility II, one of the color variation templates) and install that on your site with a few clicks. This will give you all the HTML and CSS so you can start playing with it right away.
