These aren't "knitting questions" (well, at least not the first three). Please re-read.

I would hope you read my post all the way through...as it was actually meant to be humorous and help you understand a few things. No offense intended.

So, I did read you post and the responses. :cheesy: That is why I took great pains to write the above post, to help guide you in the right direction so YOU CAN get your answers answered by letting you know to Ask the Right Questions to the Right People and also, try an alternative approach of work with people so you can build a support group independent of Joomla, RT etc...

Wish you luck and hope you find your answers.

      Peace out,
      Wingman

    • I didn't find it humorous.

If you would like to help in some way and demonstrate your prowess as a developer to a little newbie like me please take a look at the Affinity template in IE7 and try and figure out why it is not rendering correctly for me and for many other people.

Well, then I apologize, but give it a year, reread it when you got a little more experience under your belt and you will smile. :P

When I get to my office which is where I keep my PC in a closest with junk thrown all over it. I will fire it up and turn on IE7 and look at it. I stopped looking at IE a long time ago and just tell people who visit my websites to use Firefox. If I am designing for a client, which I don't like to take on any...but sometimes I get suckered into it, then I insure the sites work in IE7.

Although...here is the biggest tip I can give you - Use FireFox, get the FireBug plugin and then take a look at your site. It is the best tool for troubleshooting and figuring out why IE7 doesn't work. It's like IE7's best friend. Leave it to open source to pick up the slack for the piece of "crap" IE. Also, with firebug you will be working like the pro's in real time...adjusting css, finding files etc. You can even adjust things in real time with Firebug to test things out and see how they work on your website then go change the hard copy file...again, another tip - work to empower yourself.

A woman is knitting as she drives (which is totally unsafe, and I don't advocate it). Pretty soon, her speed has crept all the way up to 95 mph--and she passes a parked police car. The car gives chase. Officer Bob turns on his siren, but the woman, oblivious, doesn't notice him. Finally, he pulls up alongside her car and yells, "Pull over! PULL OVER!"

She looks at him, looks at her knitting, and yells--

      "NO! It's a CARDIGAN!"

      It's all good.

      Peace out,
      Wingman

    • Wing: Thanks for the advice but I've been using Firebug since it was introduced and IE7 is still a large slice of the internet browsing pie.

Oh, cool - I love it...but sadly I updated to the new Firefox and it doesn't work with it, yet. And yeppers - IE is a big slice of the pie, but I am in designing web sites for me and my projects...so, if anyone wants to be a part or view them...better be using anything but IE - soon I will just block IE and leave a message - so, sad - you can't see this site cause you support viruses, thieves, bad web design, suppressing progress etc. because you use Internet Explorer, maybe when you catch up with the real world, by taking two minutes to download FireFox and use a real Browser, then you can see this site.

      Haha...I'm such a (censored).

      Peace out...hit you up later.

    • I just wanted to post a general observation and does not really pertain to this thread or any other particular "no support" thread. Most questions that go unresolved or unanswered are related to people trying to do things that are not directly supported by the template. These things usually involve changing the layout or behavior of a particular part of a template. Most people who are new to web development and specifically XHTML and CSS, usually think that what they have in mind is a simple change, and don't realize quite what is involved in making it happen. This is not RT's fault, it's the XHTML and CSS specifications that define the rules. This stuff is not trivial, that's why we've gone to great lengths to make as many things as customizable and configurable from the admin as possible. If you are fairly knowledgeable in these technologies, then you probably will have no problem making changes as you realize that everything you do has trickle-down consequences to other areas of the layout as well as an impact for other browsers.

Most support threads take two forms, the first is a legitimate bug. Any bug or issue with a template or configuration you will find quickly resolved by our moderators. Those are always given top priority. The second form is anything related to customizing, custom code, or general modification outside the bounds of the regular design, is going to get less attention. Those usually require alot more work on the moderators part, and frankly are answered as a courtesy to help people understand what's involved in the changes they are asking for. The vast majority of people who complain or have issues about the lack of support are asking the second type of question.

Another way to get good support, is to be polite when asking, be thankful when helped, and in general be polite and considerate to the moderators. Moderators are people too, so if you insult them, or are generally rude in your communications, the help you receive is not going to be as good as if you were better behaved. This is just common sense, and good web etiquette.

Like I said, this is not directed at the author of this thread, or anyone in particular, just general observations.

Just wanted to add that James' post "Top tips for support!" is really helpfull ...
      www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=23...36997&rb_v=viewtopic

And since I'm no mod I can answer only posts I really find interesting.
Threads with impolite or rude content are not so motivating ...

P.S.: Nothing against your post trumpeter – but RT's support isnt generally poor
