Can't install a template that is .tgz

Posted 15 years 8 months ago
    • Hi,

I've installed templates in the past. But they were all zips.

Now I'm trying to install a Rocket Theme template that is a .tgz file and it won't work.

It takes a minute, looking like it's uploading. Then it stops and loads a blank page (/administrator/index.php)

Any ideas what could be the problem? Is there any way of downloading the themes files in a zip instead of tgz?

      Cheers.

    • Try downloading the .tgz to your computer, unpack it and then zip it up and try again :)

      Has that been done before?

I'll give it a try now.

    • Hmmm there is no unpack/unzip option for the file...?

    • It could be "Extract archive" or something similar. Use WinRAR or 7Zip if you are on Windows.

    • 7zip will work...

Also, if you are using Chrome, try a different browser.

    • Realised I didn't have winzip installed anymore since I done a reformat...

Installed it. Extracted the theme from .tgz

Zipped it back up using winzip

And still joomla won't upload it :(

Can you upload themes using FTP?

    • You can upload the theme via FTP to the template folder.

It should be recognized when you go to the Template Manager.

    • Yes, just drag 'n drop the rt_template_j15 folder to the /templates/ directory.

    • Ok cheers lads I'll give that a go.

Any reason why .tgz never works for me? It's joomla 1.5 and I tried in Firefox and IE.
