Can't install a template that is .tgz

If you downloaded in Chrome, it add a gz extension to the template name.
So instead of template.tgz, the file gets names template.tgz.gz, which Joomla won't recognize. - Thanks,

Downloaded using Firefox. Firefox is my default browser. I just use IE to double check that a problem is not just Firefox related.
But sure if it's as easy as uploading via FTP I needn't worry about the joomla UI install.

Right I can't find the joomla directory when I connect to my site via FTP. The hosting providers are different to what I used in the past. I will ring them to find out what is up with that.
But I do want to know why I can't upload the template normally through the joomla backend.
It's very frustrating. It seems to be just Rocket Theme templates I can't do it with (I am a paid subscriber).
Can anybody shed anymore light on the subject for me please?
