Displaying css template designs in Dreamweaver

  • Displaying css template designs in Dreamweaver

    • Hi guys

      I am wanting to edit the Sporticus Template in Dreamweaver, but it doesn't display the layout correctly. I guess this is because the design does not use tables, but rather css.

      Is there anyway to setup dreamweaver so that it is able to display the sporticus template layout and design?

    • Nope :)

      To be honest, even if it used tables, DW design mode would probably be mostly useless. Design mode is pretty redundant for template layout editing I'm afraid.

    • I have a peer here at work that refuses to stop using dreamweaver. However, we found out a way to edit templates in it, by accident. He copied the source code of a template that was up in firefox and pasted it into dreaamweaver, and also had the path for the site set to a folder that had all the css files and everythign in it. All of a sudden, it looked just like it did in firefox, in the dreamweaver design view:)

    • Really? It's always something I've wondered if it actually worked but never had the time to test out...well, I stand corrected then!

      Gonna have to give it a try now ;D

    • Well like I said, it was by accident, when he gets here tongiht I'll ask him to walk me through as much of it as he can.

    • Hmm, I just opened up my site in firefox, hit my view source on my web developer toolbar. Selected all and copied it. Opened dreamweaver and hit new, chose php. Pasted my source in there and my page comes up pretty much like it is on the site. I just have broken squares where my modules are, but as for the layout, I could probably edit it from here if needed.

    • Ahhh...well all you'd editing is the PHP output/final HTML, hardly the template source...but I guess useable of sorts with the design. Problem is if you need a lot of PHP in the template there will be a lot to add back in.

    • There is indeed a way that I've been using for a long time.
      Use the find and replace on the following:

      <?php echo $mosConfig_live_site;?>/templates/<?php echo $mainframe->getTemplate(); ?>/

      <?php echo $mosConfig_live_site;?>/

      The replace for both is nothing.

      Now you have all the links to css files and images just as Dreamweaver expects, hence you can see your design.

      Hope that helps.

    • Just reading this post despreatly trying find some control as a more or less graphic/web designer. I was not sure how do you what you posted..I did something but it did not really do anything.

      Im looking for some kind of DW-CS3 Joomla Flow i can sink my teeth in. Should I get a local server? and some how jog between the two? Or are you saying something I just did not get.

      Any wisdom, feedback or places I can go read up on Dreamweaver work flow with joomla would be appreciated.

      Thanks
