    • Here's a suggestion for those who want to edit template in DreamWeaver.

With the file you want to edit open, go to "Text" on the menu
      Choose "CSS Styles"
Choose "Design Time..." at the bottom
Click on the + to add item
Navigate to your CSS sheet used with that template
      Ok! ok!

Your layout will look a LOT closer to what you see online. It won't be perfect, but you can at least tinker with your CSS a little more easily! :D

      That is kinda creepy :o

Still do not think it would help too much though but it all depends on your abilities.

hehe yeah, but it just goes to show you that there are many work flows out there. It does force the wysiwyg designers using DW and the like to remember some of that auto fill code, and ease the pain a bit. I'll learn and grow as I go, kind of into it now. Still walking around blind...but its kinda fun. The forum here is excellent, for users like me!

I think a cool thing to have with a template is an html file that has all the styles in it. You could tweak and view the css via DW and then import the modified CSS... something like that. :) Come to think of it that sounds a bit creepy too... especially since I really don’t know everything there is to know about how Joomla works yet. Getting there... about 10% now. Another couple months I'll have a solid system down.

Unless somebody has the ultimate DW-Joomla workflow sorted out. I bet a commercial gizmo like this would make some money. Like Contribute they can call it JoomlaDumbWaiter, or JooMooDream Ok I’m out.. It’s getting strange.

    • Learning "pure" code is still the ultimate goal to aim for. It makes life so much more "simple".

A believe a tool should be an extension of knowledge already aquired to improve efficiency rather than a replacement other knowledge to make life easier in the short term :)

The are more "interesting" ways to learn such as to play with some web stuff, maybe a test joomla! install on a locahost.

For me, the best way to learn which is not as boring as reading "exciting" manuals is to help people as soon as you have a good base to build upon.

      Anyways, Good Luck :)

What's creepy about it? It just temporarily associates the css with the page you are working on. It's not a work-around it's a built in feature. For people who do work in DW it's a nice feature.

Working in DW doesn't mean you can't read the code, it's just another tool.

    • Thanks, it’s my Hybrid existence in the world of design that gets me in over my head allot of times. There are so many hats to where cms, flash, php, ecommerce, oscommerce, cfs, asp, ground up apps, video, seo, design etc etc. There are so many hats to where these days, at least in my station in the world. What I normally do with new stuff is get fairly up to speed to understand it enough make it work technically. ( 3-6 months under the hood) Then I normally look to hire out complex plans. I hate to just not know anything about something that we could be potentially selling to a client. Can't very well talk about it intelligently.

Your right - play with it live, read what you have too, beg for help and learn as you go.

I just find it strange to see the template appear in DW - its an odd experience from normally seeing PHP all over the shop with white backgrounds ;D
