Pimped Up: Site of the Month

    • I think RT should broaden its horizon as probably was said earlier.

I believe the Annual award would be fantastic in replacement of the SOTM!

However, that is only based on website customisation etc... other awards, maybe not related to templates at all may be introduced. Loads of people help out in the forums, and do not expect anything from that apart from a warm fuzzy feeling inside ;D But maybe a small medal for the person who helped in the forums the most for that period of time. Other awards along this line may a nice little sideon for the big Annual award.

These small and maybe insignificiant awards will keep the life in the awards system but without being a major decision or hard work from the "Powers that be"

cheers for the suggestions so far

I would agree, damo. It seems that a monthly award would take Andy and Kevin away from designing the best templates.

Also, you guys do what you need to do. I don't marry ideas. Let me know if I can be of service to you.

    • Dave had some good ideas, but to flesh them out a little more...

I'd suggest going to go to an annual or semi-annual (twice a year) award program. A full year is a long time to wait, but it makes it bigger. Ultimately it's how much time Andy wants to dedicate to it.

I'd suggest you pick design categories (some have been suggested) and stay away from popularity categories (Dave would win). Maybe the design categories could be market related (shows versatility of the templates), ie., Best Business site | Best Non-profit site (charities) | Best Sports/Fan site | Best Community-base site -- you get the idea. Then maybe have an overall winner; Grand Poobah Site or the Year. I'd suggest substantial prizes (life time membership seems over the top), I'd suggest 1 year Pro membership for winner of each category. Have an official webform entry page, only one submission per designer per category. Don't post the nominees until voting time, maybe public voting decides the finalists in each category and Andy and Kevin pick from the 3 or 5 finalists in each category.

      My 2 cents.

    • just a quick update on this;

i'm technically still on my first holiday in ages and its also coming to the end of the financial year so i'm busy chasing people for receipts/invoices as well as getting a little nervous about my tax bill ...

from april 6th it will all be over and i'll then be putting something to andy, kevin, stew, yves and dan about the 'award scheme' and hopefully we'll have something to put to everyone a few days after that

so, it's not that it's forgotten .. but i might need each member to lend me $20 if it all goes pear shaped in the next few days ;)

    • What about having different categories that sites can submit to? For example... slickest visual design, coolest use/integration of technologies, best website concept, etc...?

I think it's hard for any ONE website to be all these things and having more than one category would democratize it a bit, rather than crowning one website "king" of all.

Don't know what the different categories might be, but i think RT could have some fun with that... ;)

    • but thats each month... if we have too many categories everyone who submits wins something!

    • i didn't necessarily mean each month... there could be submissions to, say, 5-6 different categories once a year. The review process would only need to happen once a year, but there wouldn't be just one overall "winner" but rather a winner in each category... (total 5-6). Doesn't seem like it would need to be much more work...
