    • Wow, that is a nice one. It used to be on the right (IG). Thanks for the catch - you were really reading it.

    • Looks Great, one suggestion is that the color of the text on the main menu buttons is hard to read against that yellow background. Otherwise looks good.

    • Hey Stewart:

OK it's July and Andy did it again - so I'm looking forward to your implementation of Versatility II !!! However, I'll reiterate my preference for simple menu systems. The July template does give you a chance to save a click by nesting the submenu in the header bar menu - although I do like the static menu on the left. Let's see now ... I think you've got about 6 weeks left before school starts, so - better get to work!

You are exactly right. About 6 weeks and I will have to make a decision. I agree with you as well. I like the user4,5,6 modules on the new template, so will probally switch over, but I will probally retain the same menu system. thanks for your comments.

Ok Mike, I have chosen to switch. Take a look and let me know. I like it a bit better than VersI. I made a custom width and took off the width choosers. I will put the text size options back in later on.

Great job - and it appears that you are also teaching this summer!!!

I've emailed our folks here with links to your site. It's the 3rd time I've tried to get them to consider something other than static html... I venture to say that you are setting the standard for school sites based on Joomla.

Regarding my ongoing commentary on navigation - after a few minutes at your site I really don't miss the drop down menus. With so much content on Home it's good to not cover it up with drop downs. I did notice some slow server activity - I don't think it's the template or Joomla - I wonder how the performance is for anyone with dial-up...

The template is really good at showing off what's new with the module positions - my thought is that this will result in visitors coming to the site frequently just to browse ... which is a VERY GOOD thing!

So what's next? ... How about a consulting practice for other school districts?

Best Wishes for the rest of your summer.

    • Thanks again for the fine comments. In my opinion, Joomla is the PERFECT solution for schools. It’s free and very easy to use. You just need someone to take the time to learn how to use it. I absolutely agree about the menu now. I did go ahead and switch to II because I liked the package look of the template. The other seemed to flow to the edges of the page, which is nice, but I like our site to be “bound” by borders. Anyway, I like it better.

The server is slow and noticeable. I use PowWeb, which is currently switching platforms. It has been slow for several weeks, but hopefully they will be finished migrating before school starts.

I am currently implementing WordPress into our site like on the Joomla site. I am teaching our student council member to post to the blog. I want them to make post about current school events, sporting events, etc. Hopefully this will go over well. I am still looking for a way to incorporate a forum on the site, but I can only imagine the problems that might create and the nightmare that would be to moderate.

Anyway, I have considered a creating a site to promote Joomla for school websites. I suppose it would have a nice forum to assist in implementation, good school sites, and highlighting some good components for school sites. I am just not sure if that already exists, or if it would go over well. What are your thoughts?
