    • You know Joomplaza? they steal content and publish as theirs (word for word). I experimented to see what I could actually do. They run adsense, so I reported content stealing to adsense. A week later, they have no more adsense :cheesy: They are now using some other ad service. So you can report to adsense, if they are making money on side, Give bad WOT rating. If they have affiliate links, notify or call out the business that is offering the affiliate program on twitter why they support unethical behavior. Make it public!

    • Maybe I'm just too new to the community to know what really goes on, but I assumed that when a member downloads a template, it would inject some sort of identifying code that could be tracked using some sort of web crawling script so they could shut down the membership. Is that not the case?

No, RT does not inject any kind identifying code that could be tracked using some sort of web crawling script so they could shut down the membership.

(But it's simple enough to track... 8) )

Memberships and entitlement are two separate things...

Entitlements are based on the honor system, you should read the TOS to understand the difference between the two.

Basically, entitlements never expire, subscriptions (memberships) do.

If you DL templates from some other site, expect some issues with spy ware, etc.

And of course, w/o a valid subscription to RT, you can't get support in the template specific forums.

    • Yeah, I figure you get what you pay for--hence my membership! :cheesy: I just assumed that there was some fancy coding that went on behind the scenes to track down the offending parties...freeze/delete their accounts, track down and taser them, etc.

The best thing is, that approx 99% of the illegally downloadable templates have been tampered with. Containing backdoors, trojans and so on. So, if you wish to use an illegal template, better make sure you are one hell of a coder and find out whether or not there is "added code" there. You'll see your site hacked in no time
Exactly, you hit the nail on the head.

Why do you think these sites do this? Out of the goodness of their heart? Generosity? They do it because they know there are people stupid enough to download and install it, all the while installing malware and trojans for them to exploit.

They load stuff in there you would never want on your website, hard drive, and who knows what they are doing to your visitors. The people who download these ill gotten gains usually get what they deserve. These are people who would never purchase products anyway, so it's not really lost revenue, it's more like clients so stupid you wouldn't want them as clients in the first place. There's really no loss.

Aside from all that, the real value of RT is the community, not the templates and extensions.
