From what I have read on these pages, people are having this problem when they use the menu item type link-url so you may be able to duplicate it that way.

When creating a menu item type link-URL you must remove the existing Itemid from the URL, have you done that?

Yes, I can bypass this problem on that aspect. However, since my problem arises when I go to a link on the component, there isn't really a solution for me:( Have you looked at the problem on my test site? cleanmywater[dot]us if you go to the support servies menu button it will highlight and show you the submenu's that are under it. Now I have these submenu's as link-urls and have copy and [asted the url of the corresponding workgroups from my support services component. When you click on one of them, the menu pathway disappears, thereby taking with it, the users ablility to navigate amongst those other submenu's of the support services tab. That's my biggest problem, not just that the pathway isn't there to show users where they are, but that the entire submenu disappears when it happens. The only wat to chose a different option at that time is to click on te support services button again to make the pathway reappear. That is not the best way to launch a new site!LOL On the return submenu item, i tried something a little different. Rather than putting a link to the returns workgroup in that menu item like I did the others, I made a content page that I then placed the different links on that page that would normally be there in the components workgroup page. So basically, for the returns submenu item it is linked to a content item and that content page then has links on the page that lead to "add ticket", "glossary", "knowledgebase" and so on. Now what that changes is that when you click on the returns submenu item, the meni pathway does not disappear, and all of the submenu items stay up there while you are on that content page. However, once you click on one of the links on the page that takes you into the component like the other submenu items do, the menu pathway once again goes poof. :( I am launching opefully in 2-3 days, so at this point, any suggestions or advice is happily taken and tested:)

      Thanks,
      David Henderson

    • Giving that a try now, will report back what happens:) Thanks for giving the time to offer some suggestions, I had run out of ideas:)

Edit: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!:) That worked wonderfully. Removing that number and letting it reassign a new item id at the end made it retain the menu pathway. Now that I see it working, it all makes sense!LOL Since they all had itemid=759 there was no way for it to know the pathway, now that the number is removed, it assigned 760, 761 and so on. I did make one small change. Removing the itemid number fixed it fine on my computer, but for some reason, when my colleague went to the new link it kept the pathway for him ,however, for some reason the content area did not show up correctly. None of the icons or links showed up, it was basically just a blank content area with an orange box. So then I changed the technical menu item link, and comepltely removed the &itemid=759 from it, since joomla seemed to assign a whole new itemid= to the link, seemed unneccesaary to have the &itemid in there earlier in the link. That had the same effect as the first try, but also allowed the page to show up correctly on my colleague's computer, so all is good now. all I can say is THANK YOU! We we set to launch in one day and were a bit worried we wouldn't get this figured otu in time!:)

      Thank you again and again,
      David Henderson

    • I know that this is by now an ancient thread, but I am at my wits end trying to sort this out. I have followed this long thread over here, from an equally long thread on the Vortex boards. I am very happy that David found his solution, but I don't know if his fix would work in my situation, or if it would, how to exactly go about it.

I am using iJoomla Magazine (like the iJoomla users who started the thread over on Vortex) and need to have the Vortex menu buttons pull up different issues of the main magazine. And the menu does do this. However, in doing so, the button doesn't "light up" as it does when for blogcategories etc., and any sub menu items don't show up at all.

I have posted about this (as have many others) on the iJoomla site, but after many months, there seems to be no real solution. I am encouraged by David's fix, so I hope someone (Peter...do you have room for another good deed feather in your cap?) can tell me if the item ID removal might fix my problem. And if so, where do I remove it from? All access to the item ID's that I can find seem to be unchangable.

The site I'm working on is at www.SuperSmartGames.com , and you can see the problem by clicking on the "Little Kids" menu button. I actually need to move all the menu buttons over to iJoomla, but for now they are linked to blogcategories.

My thanks to anyone who takes a whack at this, as it is driving me crazy!
