Slow. Slow. Slow.

    • Anyone have any ideas on how I can seriously speed up Joomla? I am using a Rockettheme template that works great when noboby is on the network, but is slow as dirt when lots of people are hitting the site. I have the ability to get new servers, etc, but just need a little guidance.

      My site is as follows:
      www.clevelandcountyschools.org

If you had the ability to set up the best possible environment, what would you do?

      Thanks as always.

    • Thanks for the good advice guys, but I haven't really seen much improvement yet. The site gets a lot of traffic (not like a news site, but still high volume). I am sitting here on the server looking at the top and have a load average of 5+ 10+ and 20+ which is well above the necessary amount.

Apache httpd is taking up the majority of CPU usage... do you think I just need to upgrade the server and get faster processors to pull the weight? At night, it's definitely not as slow because of the lesser amount of traffic.

Thanks for your thoughts... I am going to beat this server beaste someday (just not sure how...yet).

    • Looking at a load average of 47, 22, 19. It's out of control.

    • Do you have anything else going on? I mean, is there any 3rd party extension that could be creating a lot of load? I really don't think that the template even with gantry would do much to produce load of that sort. For example our demo server, gets ALOT of requests and we have many template instances running (over 100), and the load is very low. It's a single quad core box although the db is on a separate server.

    • Yes, I have several third party extensions. The template itself is definitely not driving the load up. Do you know how I could figure out which extensions are created the problem(s)?

    • Well, after working on the server for a long time... I finally realize that a bad component was slowing it all down. The site is now faster than it ever has been in the past.

Sorry for wasting your time, but you did help me realize the problem.

      Thanks as always.

    • You might also want to tweak your main background, too, given that it's 675K!
