Moderator: Did you delete my logo topic?

    • Really your sig is the same thing though.. You're still submitting me to unsolicited commercial links.... That's why if I can't refer a product or service then you shouldn't be able to refer a product or service through a sig or link to a marketing site with the purpose of making a sale.. That's like saying I shouldn't see ad's on google cause I didn't ask for them.. Or saying that a site shouldn't display ADWORDS cause I didn't ask to see those things...

    • Hello William,

I was the one who removed your thread. I was scanning the forum late last night, found your thread and GollumX's reply and subsequently removed it, I normally notify people of removals of this sort but I must have been too tired to send a PM which I apologise for.

For me, this breached forum rules as it seemed to be a blatent advertisement. There is a fine line to what is "acceptable" advertising and those which are not, which is all driven by your personal opinion. As damo has stated, signatures are your business cards and you are allowed, within certain restrictions, to have some details or links to your website etc....

You shall also see random posts referring people to other websites and services etc... which are, in essence, the same as the thread you posted. However, a random post is "difficult" to manage and has a lesser impact on the forum itself instead of a new thread in this section.

You will have also seen many requests in the forum in posts, threads etc... which may require a post with some form of advertisement to be inserted, this, in my opinion, is acceptable behaviour as the thread starter who needed help was the initiator.

With such situations, the actions are driven by a personal interpretaion and in this case, the topic was removed due to my take on Forum Rules.

If Andy says it is acceptable, then that is ok.

    • It was very nice of you to come forward and apologize to me for deleting my post, right before deleting two more of my posts that called attention to this thread for others to be aware of it... No where in those threads were there commercial links and no where in this thread are there commercial links except for damo's signature.. SO really.. Your apology really feels empty now

    • There is no need in creating threads in General Discussion and Water Cooler with the purpose of redirecting people to this thread. This thread is clearly visible to any member wanting to read this discussion and having referrals was overkill.

It is the same as when I remove relay links to posts in General Discussion for a help request in the template section forums, it is unnecessary.

I hope you appreciate the reasoning behind the deletion of the threads.

    • I can't put a flyer in a store window I shop at asking people to take a survey I'm hosting in the other part of the store.. It's because people who are here for no purpose other than to get a template do not come to the requests area once their site is up.. especially if they have no programming/designing talent.. SO Why wouldn't I go somewhere where other people [who may not normally come to the requests thread] could read my post and come participate in a survey that your site gave me the ability to put up... This is really turning into a place I don't want to be real quick...

    • If that is the case, the post should have been submitted in the appropriate forum. Alternatively, as what other posters have done in the past, reply to your thread with a note saying "Could a moderator move this to ............?". This is a simple precedure when asked.

It wasn't the case.. I put it here.. because my original thread was here... Now maybe we could move this to the general discussion.. But at the time.. I was trying to catch the attention of who deleted my topic from the thread it was deleted in

      BTW .. Please vote James

    • Moved from Water Cooler

If you believe a post is against forum rules, select the "Report to Moderator" button.

      Original post restored.

      Cheers

    • On a side note, regardless of what country you live in, a persons forum is not public domain, so Polls etc. are only valid if the host wishes to follow them.

The internet is not a democracy. :o

To answer the questions asked my feelings are:

If someone requests assistance then it should be fine to offer them services (this seems to be the case)

But there is a fine line when starting a new thread where directing people to a commercial website could be construed as advertising even if it is not a service RT provides.

RT doesn't provide Viagra or Tools to 'MAKE ME INTO A MONSTER' but I don't want to see threads started every five minutes offering these things to me. Yes it's a bit extreme, but where exactly is the line? Logos are ok? ok how about viagra logos? where exactly do we say no?

If the matter wanted to to be solved, perhaps put up an advertising forum. Where people can advertise to their heart's content, and if no one wants to see it they don't have to go in there.

These sorts of forums usually serve 2 purposes. The advertisers can no longer complain because they clearly have a place to advertise, and 2 usually no one goes into the forum anyway because they know it's just full of ads. :D

    • Why don't we have an advertising and paid requests forum? That way everyone knows where to look when they need some special work doing...
