    • I am on the east coast, VA. No install troubles at all. Verizon guy installed and set up router. I just tweaked the Firewall settings to my liking and that was it. Up and running. Now, I know he did have to dl something off the internet that tweaked my pc network settings to allow for that type of down/up speed but I'm not to sure what it was. I should have paid more attention in case it bombed my pc out but I didn't.

What sort of troubles are you having?

    • Little Rock, Arkansas... We do not have Fiber in this area, but my Uncle that lives in Denver, Colorado has FIBER and anytime I visit I stretch the Fiber Cables close to the breaking point... ;)

The biggest difference I saw was the ping and latency rates are almost non-existent.

Bandwidth is bandwidth, but pinging your DNS server with very little or no latency is what really "greases your pan."

I perceive bandwidth as the number of lanes in your highway... so to speak. The more highways you have, the more information can get from one place to the other.

Ping and latency, on the other hand, has to do with the speed-limit in which each car can travel on each highway.

    • yeah, good analysis.

I do have to admit. I'm loving the fiber. I'm look'n for stuff to dl or upld :D

Not to mention, it really helps my BF2 play gaming a ton. Not to mention I just added another 2GB of ram to my machine.

    • Those speed test are not always correct.
Really all they do is measure time to file size and if you your speed boost caches the files that would explain your results.

I share your joy Wage. I just had Verizon FIOS installed last week and now have 30MB DOWN/5MB UP :) :)

      For only $55.00/month. I think that's a steal!
We are so close to getting this in my area.
It is one county away from me.
I have a buddy who has it and so far it has been very consistent but we will see as they ramp up.

TW at my location is 10mb down 768 up.
They bumped the speeds when FIOS came around...competiton is GOOD!

    • Im on 8 meg broadband but I have a couple of servers in my garage, which power another two houses in the street. Luckily there gardens are both opposite mine, so we just laid a few gigabyte ethernet cables down. It's great for playing LAN games like Neverwinter Nights 2, good speed and everything, though you obv. don't get the speed when we play others across the world, because three houses share the 8 meg (does cut down the cost per month though!)

I now get uploads of 1meg and downloads of up to 25 megs. My best so far is 20341 kb/s.
I need it with the our gaming sites at Cordorgaming.com and to play Half-Life games and mods with.
