What is a way to pool together a team of "Joom Users' to co-work on projects?

    • Ok, I have been "faking the funk" when it comes to the design of my site. Most of my projects are beyond my experience (and I have an extensive background - just not web design), but that has never stopped me in life.

My ultimate goal is a "Peace Project" I have been working on longer than some of the people on this board have been on this earth. (It started when I was in 2nd Grade) I started the design but have to put it on hold, while I work out some prep. OK, enough of that. (plus, I am waiting to renew my Membership to get More of these GREAT TEMPLATES)

What I Love about Joomla is the Community - the potential they have to make things happen.

I am hoping that I can tap into that here on RocketTheme (I can hope, I'm allowed to) I have a different kind of project and am looking for people who might - ummm be interested in playing a small part. Not sure if this is the place to bring it up, but water cooler is the closest thing to a golf course I can find on RocketTheme.

K, I deleted the last part - or I'm re-wording it - What is a good way to pool together a team of Joomla "users" to co-work on projects?

I have some projects I am working on...and want to put together a team.

      Thanks

    • What sort of project? Is it a commercial project you want to hire people for? Is it a script, an extension for joomla perhaps, that you would like to work on? Is it an Open Source Project? Is it a social website concept, such as kiva.org?

If you want this to be private, post it in the requests forum. Otherwise, maybe duplicate this thread on joomla.org as well. Go further, and build a website where you can lay out the goals for this project and invite participants.

    • Thanks GollumX - always give me GREAT ANSWERS...

Damo - I started to post the projects but then thought I need to pull back and discuss my "Idea" of forming a "Team" then discuss the projects... but what I feel is the spirit here is great. Now -

Take that up a notch or next level and "Boy, the Sky is the Limit". Almost any 10 major Posters on this board - could easily form a group - - vote on a Idea or Concept for a Web - design a website that ROCKS & well - create a stream of residual income from a site that pretty much runs itself - then turn around and do it again...

Lets put it this way. I commend the RocketTheme Team. Also, anyone who has become a RocketTheme member has moved up a major level (notch, interface) with Joomla. Joomla is core program, RocketTheme is a leap and bounds next level of Joomla.

I'd like to create next Level Joomla Platform that - well, makes successful websites.

      1 - because I love doing this...
2 - because I want a stream of income to do the bigger projects...plus, I am sure others have there goals too that they want to reach. So, working together as a team could enable us to reach higher levels.

My initial thought was a school of Joomla -

      Basics
      Elementary
      Intermediate
      Graduate

      then from there -

      Marketing

      then -

Idea Hubs or groups that work together to make successful websites.

But a lot of members on RocketTheme are well past the first stages and are already ready for Idea Hubs - teams that could make incredibly successful websites that all participants would benefit from.

Most successful projects with Joomla concentrate with development of Joomla or some function of Joomla...I say take that spirit and make real world applications and give the rest of the world a run for their money with incredible websites with "Joomla".

I personally believe that the Joomla community can change the web and the world, for the better, with a little focus and guidance (please note - I am not saying they are not already doing that - but then I don't see the world the way most people do).

      Ideas, feed back, suggestion, comments...anyone?

So, if I am understanding you, I am getting that you would like to be less esoteric about coding, and more "real world" application of Joomla for successful BUSINESS, instead of just cool websites?

In that case the Coders 101 (thanks for that link, Timothy) would not apply, but things like installing/modifying modules, customizing templates, and basic marketing layout and design would?

I am interested in a more detailed concept.

    • Yeah most developers on here are doing this already, making a living building Joomla sites. However, I think he is suggesting collaboration.

I agree it's a great concept, and am collaborating with others on RT on a project or two myself.

Key to the success of this sort of project is the personalities involved. If you've got good rapport and agree on the fundamental goals of the project, and team members are happy to compromise on the minor issues which will invariably pop up... the project is much more likely to succeed.

Another issue you can't avoid is copycats. Exposing too much of your goals to the public in the early stages could be a mistake. In this business copycat projects WILL appear, so you really need to get a foothold in right from the start and constantly innovate and stay ahead of the competition.

/* I'm still not aware of what you're after so I could be way off track with all this */
