    • I have used Open Office for about a year at home. After being an MS Office user for years, I found the switch almost painless. There were a few things that weren't where I was used to, but it turned out they were where they *should* be. (Note: I am really only workign with Calc and Writer.)

A couple of the short-cut features I was used to in Excel are still missing, but I learned to live without them.

I had to go into the settings and change the default to save everything in MS Office format, so documents could be read at work which is stuck with MS for now. Same with my wife who is a teacher... the cash-strapped board of education wouldn't dream of saving thousands by switching to Open Office.

One thing my wife noticed was forms didn't function as well. Instead of being able to enter directly into fields, it had to be done in a pop-up box. But now that I think of it, those forms almost always prove to be a nightmare in MS Office.

Open Office is the standard in my home.

Some recent news for Open Office is that IBM has just jumped into the community with full coding support. They will be offering it with their solutions, as well. Lots of different governments around the world (and some US states, I believe) have made the switch.

    • I like open office and would prolly use it but.... we can buy any corporate adopted software (single license) for the cost of shipping.
So I got Office 2003 for about 20 bucks. Some perks to living in corp drugery.

Has anyone played with MS's adobe knockoffs and silverlight?

I downloaded it and played with it, but man I dont need another learning curve and I dont think it will knock of Adobe
