try this little trick... so long as your site and database is backed up, and the new host has fantastico...
Empty your root folder...
in the fantastico area, install a fresh install on the root directory, it will create the necessary database for you and the db user.... Now, under the cpanel file manager, be sure to download or copy the contents of the autocreated configuration.php
this is CRUCIAL, you need the contents of this config file as the info is stored in MD5 hash...
Now, unpack your site backup, or FTP, the entire contents in the root overtop of the newly created site...
In the cpanel, open up phpmyadmin, nav to the DB (probably joom1), and in the browse area select ALL tables and do a DROP.
Import the SQL backup from your old site into this blank database.
Final step, overwrite the old config.php with the new one created by fantastico. Voila! You'll just need to redo the global config settings, but it works...
If you do not have fantastico, do a manual install of a stable core and follow the same procedure post install...
This trick is noobtastic! Got it to work myself numerous times, let me know if i can help ya further...
