1 gallon = 3.79 litre
1 litre = 1.65 euro here
1 euro = $1.56
1.65 euro = $2.57
1 gallon = $9.74
Indeed almost $10 for a gallon, so what are the Americans whining about Do have to mention that of this $10, 65% is tax
Good thing we get a lot more mpg's from European-sized cars. Then again, it hasnt'improved much over the last 30 or so years. Where PC technology has evolved at an unbeleivable rate, the combustion engine has not done much efficiency wise. Amazing, or isn't it.
Consider that this is a third world country and the starting annual salary for an accountant with a Bachelors degree is around USD$7K (at the local PriceWaterhouseCoopers) and you come to realize USD$5.7 /gallon here in Fiji is much much more then USD$5.7 /gallon in the US.

That's exactly it, its all relative. I remember talking with Kevin about the difference between UK and US gas prices. It works out that relatively, we are the same for a US citizen in the US and a UK citizen in the UK. However, if I as a UK citizen went to the US, CHEAP GAS WOOT!

Very good point...
On the other hand, just the number of bills needing to be paid monthly/annualy in a "1st world" country like NL has exploded in the last 20 years. The cost of housing still around 30% of my income, but (health-) insurance, utility-bill and taxes have skyrocketed. Added to that are bills we didn't have in the yesteryears. Cellphone bill, digital-tv bill, ip/hosting, and countless (as in ~) subscriptions to internetrelated funstuff like RT. It not easy, and certainly not cheap to be a superconsumer. I'm even thinking, is this still fun?
To cut down on costs, i can leave the car for a day or two, but not my pc, no sir.
