I meant
"Hoping I'm being embarrassingly dumb about this and the answer is simple/obvious.....but if it DOES turn out I've been embarrassingly dumb, that a kind moderator wont allow my public shame and humiliation to remain there on the forum for all time with not even a nickname to cover my shame"

no shame in learning my friend. We've all been there at some stage.
BTW - you might find it a little easier when you are starting off to install a local server like WAMP on your pc/laptop (there is a mac version as well if you are "that way inclined"). This allows you to develop your website at a local level - incredibly easy access to files/structures etc etc.
