So, I have a 1.0.15 install that originally started several years ago. I've run SMF (bridged) and then switched to Fireboard when it came out. It has had a lot of modules and components installed in it over time. Lately it gives errors and rather than track them down I'd rather start over and move on to Joomla! 1.5 + the best forum I can get. I know 'best' is a relative term so I'll qualify that with I'd like a forum that is well supported. I need to be able to update and maintain it easily and it needs to be user friendly.
So, what would you recommend for a forum? I'm very interested in phpbb3 + the bridge but I don't see a clear status on that. I liked being able to manage Fireboard right through Joomla! What's the scoop with Agora?
I'd really like your thoughts on this as I have been away from the scene for the better part of this year. Thank you.
I would say it depend to forum size and activity, if you have large forum with lots of post I would say go with phpbb3 + bridge (I myself have not tried this) otherwise give
JooBB
a try.
Thanks Peter. I will definitely check it out. What is the scoop with the the phpbb bridge? Will Rockettheme offer themes for phpbb3. Sorry if that is discussed elsewhere. Feel free to link it if it is.

Oh my goodness! Those really look incredible! What is the scoop on being able to download them? Will we have to purchase them? If so, will that cost be separate from the existing club? Sorry for all those question and, again, if they have been answered elsewhere please link. Thank you. Trouble for me is I need to get my forum back online in the next couple of days . . .
One other question . . . will the management of the phpbb3 be done through the Joomla! back end (via the bridge??) or through the normal phpbb3 back end?
It will be a separate "phpBB3 Theme Club" that will work in similar fashion to the "Joomla! Template Club". Existing members will be able to join for a discount.
Thanks for the quick info! Maybe we can turn this into a FAQ of some sort. Andy and the RT team are obviously hard at work and doing such an incredible job that I can't wait to get my hands on these themes. With the costs of the Joomla! themes (understandably) going up, I hope the cost of the phpBB themes will be something us long time members can appreciate.
So, I didn't see a release date for the themes. I'm sure no one can tell me a date but can someone say whether it will be a couple weeks or a couple months until we can get the themes? I just need to make a decision on what direction to take my site(s) for now.
And keep in mind, I recently learned that those phpbb3 templates are not merely a phpbb3 style wrapped in the J! site! They are stand alone phpbb3 forums (running in sync mode) styled to look like your RT template site, which is quite impressive... It made me appreciate them more so after learning this.
The fact that I thought they wrapped in the Joomla site speaks volumes to the quality of those bad boys.
