    • They can access the URL, but ScreenCast can be password protected.

      As I said before, you may need some type of ALC (Access Level Control) component.

      You'll need to see what's available and do some experimenting to see what works for you.

    • I am still confused about this :P

      Joomla is in the root public_html folder. Under that I have all the folders like administrator, components, etc. And in that same level, I have a folder called training_videos which I would like to protect from general access.

      I never intended training_videos to be part of Joomla since I upload them from Camtasia which gives me a neat HTML upload. You can go to www.simplosys.com/training_videos now and you'll see that its accessible to anyone.

      For some reason, if I secure the training_videos folder with a .htaccess file, it suddenly becomes part of Joomla.

      I looked at the Access Control components in the extensions directory. For good reason, they all talk about securing Joomla content. For some reason, I don't think they will work for me because this folder is not even part of Joomla until I secure it with a .htaccess outside of Joomla.

      Any help here is appreciated!

    • In Joolma

      A) Crete a Menu

      B) Create Articles with links to the videos

      Set the access to the Menu and or the Articles to registered.

      Registered users can send links to anyone they want but if someone receives a link to one of them and follows it will be required to login to view it.

      So if they are not registered, they will not be able to view the videos regardless of the fact that the videos are 'part of Joomla' or not.

      They won't have direct access to the folder where your videos are.

      You can test this by creating Menus or Articles as described above.

      When your logged in, the links will work, when you're logged out they won't; you'll be asked to login or register.

    • If you're uploading things by FTP, it's a good idea to put a blank page index.html file in that directory so if someone does happen to get there, person, search engine, robot, they will just see the blank page and not a directory structure of that folder.

      Just put this code in a new file and name it index.html, then put it in any directory you're guarding:
      <html>
      <body bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
      </body>
      </html>

    • Thanks JEM!

      That's what I'd think! And I tried just that before too. But it doesn't work..

      If I don't set up any .htaccess password protection, then
      - access to the videos via links in Joomla menu articles as well as via direct URL access works.

      If I set up .htaccess password protection on this folder:
      - access to the videos via URL is blocked
      - access to the videos via links in Joomla articles is also blocket. Yes, these articles are only available to registered Joomla users.

      I guess that .htaccess is somehow screwing things up. I think the Joomla .htaccess does not like the .htaccess in that folder that I am creating for the password protection but I don't know how to fix that.

      See below the Joomla .htaccess and the .htaccess from that folder.

      Joomla root .htaccess code

    • Sorry, it's beyond me. :oops:

      I have several menu that are password protected and when not logged in before viewing them you are asked to do so...

      Strange...

      Anyway, another one of the moderators should be able to help, but you may want to try searching or posting on joomla.org as well.

    • Thanks JEM. I appreciate your help!

      This thing is driving me NUTS...I wish I had installed joomla in a subfolder and not the root folder!

      I am almost at the point of giving up...but this is SO important for me to move forward....don't want those videos to be available to the entire world!
