i'm looking at buying the mac book with the following config:
-2.0ghz
-2GB memory
-80Gb hard drive
-double layer superdrive
-iwork
can you give me your opinions on that system.
i'd like to be able to run photoshop and such. i know the intel graphics won't be good for games, but it shouldn't be dog slow running photoshop, iDVD, and etc should it.
Well... I just got myself an hp Pavilion running WinXP media center. Its 1.8 ghz dual amd turion 64 with 2 gigs of ram and a DVD writer with lightscribe. Its windows vista ready, has a huge 17 inch widescreen, and a great geforce card. I can run fireworks, dreamworks, photoshop, and flash all at the same time and it barely faulters at all. I'm just a PC guy at heart. I always have been and always will be-- but the specs of the mac you want to get are very close to mine and all i can say is that having that power is well worth the cost of the system. So if you like the Mac OS interface then by all means-- go for it! Otherwise look more into Vista or perhaps running something like Ubuntu on a PC since they are cheaper than macs

i'm running a pentium d, 20 inch widescreen 4gigs of ram with 1 terra byte of hard drive and 512mb of dedicated video ram. it is vista capable, but vista rc1 still seems dog slow with aero on.
i'm just looking into the macbook as a portable. i just wnat to know about everyones experiences with them. and what everyone things about running photoshop with the intel graphics.
Billy, as a prior die hard pc freak, and now reformed and a much happier mac user, i think you have made the right choice
yes i know exactly what you mean. i've been a die hard pc guy. but now with vista, it's just got me thinking "why microsoft why". it's cool and all. but i just don't think it's going to handle photoshop and such well with out a mother load of ram.
vista idles using about 1.2 gigs, while my xp idles at 600 megs
It should be fine. Be aware though that the Adobe and Macromedia software will run on emulation in their current incarnations. The next version will be Intel native.
As far as pricing goes, I seem to recall an article carried by AP a couple months ago that actually found that, feature for feature, the Macs are cheaper than Dells. The article included an acknowledgment by a Dell spokesman that it seemed to be the case. That may be different by now, but it points to the fact that the difference is not all that great.
I use both (mostly Mac though), and I find that the Macs lets me focus on my work more and less on the computer.
