    • i had a mac book pro for a couple of weeks. gave it to the wife for a while before shipping it back ..

basically i think i was unlucky with the machine i got whcih didn't inspire confidence so i opted for the dell xps m1710 ..

i am however thinking of now getting a desktop to play with at home ... the dell is superb (upped the ram) and does everything i've ever asked of it but there is so much hype, especially on here, about hte mac that i'm probably going to ... but they are bloody expensive

    • There have been numerous comparisons of mac's to comparable dells, and for the most part the macs are actually cheaper when you compare apples to apples (excuse the pun). The thing is that macs just come standard with a tonne of stuff, this makes them a better computer, but also up's the base price.

    • I use both platforms, but I'm on my 14th Mac. I started with the first one with a single-sided floppy, 512 K of RAM.

      That Mac pro is fab!

      My 2 cents...

I just received my MacBook Pro 17-inch , have installed Boot Camp and XP.

Instead of the standard 160GB 5400 rpm drive, I prefered the 100GB 7200 rpm drive, to increase speed of disk access.

Performances are great, as well in MacOS X as in XP. I warmly recommend it to any who doesn't know yet what to receive at Christmas.

First of all, a big thanks to my girlfriend for her incredible birthday present. When she asked me what I wanted, I told her (joking): a MacBook Pro. I didn't think she would take it literally. But she did. ;)

The mb would mainly struggle with its poor graphics card. But if it's not for playing 3D games or using 3D apps, it would be okay. See here for a good article on Buying a MacBook versus MacBook Pro .

      Cheers
