actually i'm considering buying apple xserves and colocating them. They are really well designed machines with 3 drives, dual dual-core, upto 32gigs, redundant power supplies, remote reboot etc. They aren't cheap but they are pretty high end machines and compare well to equivalent ibm or hp products. The way i figure it, when your business relies on the website being available and responsive, it's probably worth investing in decent infrastructure.
Wish I had seen that when you posted it. I could've gotten you a screamin' deal on a Dell server. I don't know why people dismiss Dell servers. I'll be the first to admit that their desktops/laptops are crap compared to other vendors (as a sit here on my Dell notebook, next to my Dell desktop. blah), but their Enterprise team has done amazing things with server hardware... *shrug*
