What to use for template directory

    • Now I am getting slightly amazed maybe it is my X generation brain just not getting it at 10:50 on a Saturday night must be.

Lets take away JED, BOJ, and all the other sites that list and promote templates, modules and services, let's take away all the affiliates while we are at it.

Lets take away all these 'competitors' as you put it. now is everyone still enjoying the same market reach.

Let me see how did I find RT, oh I think it was BOJ, hmm how did I find Jreviews, wasn't from their site didn't know they existed it was from a third party. A sale they received from a 'competitor' as you put it.

Hang on I just bought Mosets Tree as well, again it was a review site if my memory serves me correct. So just me one user just spent hundreds of dollars because of competitor sites.

Oh and I signed up with Digital Pacific for two new VPS boxes, again from one of them competitor sites.

So please enlighten me for the sake of argument if our new site sends lets be real modest 5 new clients to RT who join per month whom never knew of RT before they found our site how on earth is that a competitor.

    • You are turning my words around and that I really see as something I dislike.
I did NOT say all these competitors, I was talking about YOUR SITE, YOUR BUSINESS.
You are taking the discussion out of context. I am stating something completely different, please do not take this out of it's context like you are doing now
You are asking for advice on a competing product, on the website of a competitor.
Hang on, that is simply rude, someone may even take offense, but hey we are an open community, why not debate and provide advice to a possibly competing site.
I really hope you are enlightened now! I put it back into its original context.......

PS: the use of capitals is just to make something clear, not because I am offended

    • I am not taking it out of context that is the point. With your thinking BOJ is a competitor, now our model is similar just a larger scope so no I am not taking it out of context.

My point is it is a complementary service to brands listed on the site, but you say it is a competitor, when all a long I have been saying no it is not. Now that I list reasons it is not and give examples you say I am taking it out of context.

This is the whole point Roeland, it is not a competitive site, sure it may have other brands on it but so does BOJ and JED for that matter, but it extends market reach.

This is why I originally said your thinking was flawed because the whole model of it is to be complementary to other brands by means of market exposure, and helpful by means of review and rank.

If anything we are a competitor to BOJ, that would be a fair and just statement, although the market differentiation is we cover more CMS's.

Our whole point of existence is to sell templates, premium extensions and hosting along with a few other revenue models the same as BOJ for instance.

    • You have strayed from the original point I made,
You are asking for input in the Rockettheme forums on a site that is going to be possibly in direct competition, logically so, you will not receive much input.
Then you wish to explain to me that you are not a (potential) competitor, but forget that you are posting these questions on the site of a (potential) competitor.

The examples are thus out of context, my point was directed at YOU and YOUR questions for advice on a possibly competing site HERE ON THIS FORUM.

Yours is not a competitive site, but your
whole point of existence is to sell templates, premium extensions and hosting along with a few other revenue models the same as BOJ for instance.

So, I am inclined to disagree and believe that you pulled it out of context, because of the specific conditions, which I had previously outlined. It seems that you are continously (whether it is on purpose or not) ignoring that small detail.

Hmm, guess we have to agree to disagree, you do not agree with my point (you do not have to either), but I certainly do not agree with yours.
No need to drag this on,
      Good luck with your business!

    • I think the whole issue was a misunderstanding on what our intentions are, I am sure no matter if we agree with each other or not, the ultimate goal is to complement not to be competitive.

I thank your for your debate, it was far better than the rubbish on TV :cheesy:
