Best VPS Server?
Ive only heard about www.servint.net/ which seemed to make 2 RT Users happy... dont know any more.
All I want is my site to perform the way it should be, have unlimited traffic and a medium space quota because my site is seriously about to go blast like myspace sometime soon
Not that I need an ultiimate Server now or even this year, I just need to change to a vps host for better email server, faster load (dreamhost loading sucks) and perhaps abit more.
I am NOT experienced with VPS at all! I do not know what I have to install, code or anything related to pro business. Perhaps someone can help me later for a fee, if needed. But now I need the desired vps server/ - Last Edit: 17 years 9 months ago by Jordan.

I heard that MySpace uses 50 servers just to serve up the frontpage. That would be expensive.
Flipsider, I think there are a couple of guys around here that know about VPS solutions. give it a little while. It's still the weekend in the US - and the Super Bowl is underway. I'm sure that Andy could tell us about the fall in traffic during the game.

If it gets as big as myspace it will atleast take 1/2 years so I dont have to worry about a huge server now... all I need is a good vps that can hold a site with users up to... 50 000 - 100 000?
Things I really need:
A good e-mail server... lots of users make lots of automatic emailing.
Average webspace... people have their own picture gallery and some other space related things
Great taffic quota... lots of traffic.... lots of traffic quota.
Top Joomla security?
Fast or normal browsing... (my current host is quite slow)
I'm not in a hurry with this but I wouldn't want to bump this topic up again in a few months...

Flipsider, you've not heard right about dedicated servers.
A Dedicated server is a whole physical server that you rent. The whole computer, HDD, RAM etc.. the whole bloody lot is yours... it is "dedicated" to you and you alone.
Last i heard of hard drives with max capacity of 100MB to 1GB was maybe 10years ago. So the smallest dedicated servers around now probably have at least 80GB of hard disc space.
With a dedicated servers you get your own IP address... and often 5 or more of them. You can then host as many accounts/websites as you wish. You can resell hosting if you aren't using up the total capacity of the server. You can do what you want.
A Dedicated server is, as we say, the 'big kahuna' of hosting. There are also different flavours of dedicated... co-location is where you own the physical machine.. you buy the damn thing.. get them to build it to your specification.. and then pay them a monthly rent for the rackspace your server is taking up and associated fees (bandwidth charges/electricity etc). Co-location works out cheapest in the long run (usually) but involves a high initial investment (purchasing the server). It also often comes with its risks.. since you manage it, you have to handle security etc and if you aren't a pro, this isn't the way to go.
I'd recommend managed dedicated hosting if you were to go the 'dedicated' route.
I really can't say how well joomla will manage over 50,000 members, but i'm pretty sure VPS won't cut it.
Take a hint from rkttheme, Andy has to keep upgrading his server with around 10,000?? members... and his server is dedicated... though you'd have to ask him what it's spec's are.
Anyway, sounds like your xbox site is taking off.. in three years time when you sell to microsoft for a few millions, don't forget to mention that rockettheme helped get you there in the official press release... and that i gave you *cough*expert*cough* advice on dedicated hosting, without which you would have been a dismal failure.

Thanks, finally!!! haha finally I know what Dedicated Servers ( I always knew it had something to do with "your own this and that" but not everything) and VPS are.
But now I still dont know what I need... VPS or Dedicated Server? what's the difference about those two?
And I think for now, my limit of monthly fee would be $50 for this dedicated or vps server.. just need it to be good enough to handle the above, and when it comes to limit, I need to be able to upgrade without any loss.
And yes, Ive paid tons of money for my site which means now I wont have to pay alot of plugins/components anymore because Ive already got them. And everyone says the site is amazing and it will be a huge success... more than 1000 users within 19 days and counting... and today im releasing v2 using Vortex Template... so yeah... if I have the possibility to become a multi milionair.... Ill make RocketTheme and it's templates rich
