Could I get another Developer's Opinion please??

    • Hostgator is the way to go, imo..Their support is fantastic. I rent several dedicated servers from them and they haven't had more than a few minutes downtime over the last few years. I've been in the web design/hosting game for almost 15 years now and they are the only hosting company I would use. I've been through 10-12 different companies over the years. They've gone out of their way more than once to help me track down script errors (which a lot of other companies say they don't support third party, etc.) spam mail problems..you name it. Yeah, sometimes Live Chat will refer you to their support ticket system..but the Tier2 and Tier 3 guys always respond very promptly.

    • I use Hostgator and refer my clients to them. I am a much happier camper when my client's site is hosted by Hostgator.

The support is amazing. And they often go above and beyond. For example, I'll ask them "how do I do such-and-such" and they'll reply, "you would do that by doing thus and so. But we just took care of it for you."

    • Hostgator looks interesting. Do you folks use shared or dedicated hosting? I love Rochen, but their disk space limits are a bit much...

    • We lease several dedicated from hostgator. Just a heads up, if you've never used it before, going from the traditional Cpanel for standard user/reseller accounts to WHM might give you a bit of a start upon seeing the slew of new controls for managing your server. In the past, I've had more than one eager beaver intern click on the shiny buttons and completely destroy DNS or fill up every bit of disk space by allowing full daily backups... . Needless to say, I and one other tier admin are the only ones with WHM access to our servers...Lesson learned the hard way.
A good tip is to setup anyone who might be working on your projects, as a reseller account. This will give your developers the access they need without allowing them to bring down your entire system.

LOL - I've pretty much let all my clients know I am not hosting them no more - they have to move their sites to their own hosting. I have -

Rochen VPS - WHM/Cpanel Super great and they got my server fine tuned for me!
HostGator VPS - WHM/Cpanel Just got it so I can't say anything yet.

They see ads for unlimited disc space and bandwidth for $6.95 and then tell me they should have that too on my server. So, I am letting them move their sites, which has been a pure horrific nightmare for each of them, but not for me. I just smile. They abused my servers way to many times and I got my own projects to host without having to deal with the headache of clients.

      Four things happened -
-they learned the hard way this is not as easy as it looks
-that they are out on a limb trying to do things themselves without knowing WTF they are doing
-that things are not what they appear (go figure - misleading advertisements - "I've never heard of such a thing!" LOL).
-all those goodies they had on using my server is no longer available.

So, a lot of them are up for renewal on contracts. I'm not giving no more discounts. Those days are over. I don't like bad hosting or bad clients that cannot get it through their heads to not abuse the servers and they do - they try very hard and ignore stuff I say. Bite me! LMAO

Also, I can't stand Godaddy - that company is ridiculous. I've watched them screw clients over big time. I'm still trying to move, transfer, 3 of my own domains I made the mistake of purchasing through them to some other domain register. They have done everything they can to insure I don't. No other company has ever hijacked my domains or stopped me from transferring. They are like a Freakin Cult! They never want to let go!

    • not used imhosted but have used rochen and hostgator as well as the likes of bluehost, siteground and a few others ..

my last host was www.5quidhost.co.uk - you have the reseller option with WHM/cPanel and for all round service/support and reliability - they beat everyone else i used before them

i now have two of my own servers but i even to today still pay a small monthly fee to 5quidhost.co.uk so i can still ask for help when needed and even though i'm not really a customer anymore, i know that if i email in, anytime of the day or night i'll get a response very quickly ..

but we all fall in love with a host eventually but like you say, you have to try all the flavours before you get to it ...
