Perhaps you have noticed that one can choose in better digi-cams witch colorspace to use.
AdobeRGB, sRGB or Camera RGB. AdobeRGB gives most of the time not so "colorfull" pictures but thats just more realistic. When I do photoretouching I always convert into AdobeRGB before separation (to print). Overall it's the best to use ICC-profiled workflows for softproofing, proof and print. (as a little sidenote: If I remember right some modern browsers can read ICC-profiles ... so be carefull what profile you embed ...)
the web is no so complicated like the print-world when it comes to colors ...
