    • Oh. We're supposed to stay on topic? There are a lot of threads that wander off topic.

But... is there a "great" tutorial out there that starts out with the basics of Fireworks?

    • Im currently beta testing for fireworks 9 (in the CS3 package) see even adobe new how good firworks was! Thank goodness they have not changed it. I was really worried going to adobe developers that FW was doomed... BUt the cool thing is now FW has some built in cool stuff that you come to expect from photoshop. The new support for photoshop effects is cool, as you can mess with psds much better with more control, just like working in PS.
it's still in Beta so Im hoping a few more things are addressed like handling HUGE files that as most of you who use fireworks would know bringing in an 8mb psd takes ages to load!

how much for a professional template...well....depends if its used under a single license or a multisite licence. I mean if it's Unique well 1000's as time to develope isn't free! But if like the great guys here do then it still costs the same but split that between a whole lotta members and WE the members win !!!
    • Don't think, Feeeeel... It is like a finger pointing to the moon. (slap) Don't concentrate on the finger or you'll miss all that heavenly glory.

I really dont understand why some people always talking bullshit about adobe photoshop. There is nothing you can do in fireworks that you cant do in photoshop. I know Andy say that he can make the same graphic with a few less steps i fireworks, but I am not quite shore to that either. Also the vector format works out very well in photoshop if you know how to handle it. And yes, I use both of them and I know there is a lot more power in photoshop compares to firework.

I'm a die-hard PhotoShop fan, but I have to admit there have been two instances so far where I was able to do something in FireWorks that I could not do in PhotoShop:

I was making changes to a RocketTheme template and editing artwork in Photoshop... upon re-saving the file the color in the art shifted and would not match the rest of the template... I tried for three days and couldn't get it to match no matter what I did. Somebody recommended FireWorks and I matched the color the very first time I hit save!

PhotoShop doesn't seem to like to blend shadows into transparent areas of an image for web... When you save for Web it either roughens the shadow horribly with dithering or you have to add a matte which works in some cases, but not all. Again, somebody recommended FireWorks and it worked beautifully on the first try! I got a beautiful smooth shadow blending into the transparent area!

Keep in mind that FireWorks, a MacroMedia product is now owned by Adobe... It is so similar to PhotoShop that it doesn't make any sense for Adobe to maintain it. More than likely they will merge some of the best FireWorks features into the flagship product, PhotoShop and phase out FireWorks.
